Re: Friday, March 15, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

... And did Troy simply flub making the lockout water for FJ? Is this any justification for betting what he did? I suppose it's not technically a lockout, because Ben was in third, but seems like he wagered more or less based on Ben's score rather than Yogesh's. Yogesh Raut: 20400-5200=15200 Troy M...

Re: Friday, March 15, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had no idea that John Paul Jones was born in Scotland. I said Morse thinking maybe the Firth of Solway was near a terminus of a Transatlantic telegraph cable, but no such luck. And did Troy simply flub making the lockout water for FJ? Is this any justification for betting what he did? I suppose it...

Re: LL 100

I took a defensive loss to jeff6286 on MD23 and will play mahatma on MD25. I'm out of championship contention at this point, but both those guys are currently in the top three in A Labyrinth.

Same. I figured it had to be the southern hemisphere, but couldn't think of which Secretary it would be. Certainly something worth studying a bit as there have only been nine. Sec-Gens should definitely be on your short list study guide if you get the call. Wholeheartedly agree with the study list....

Yeah, "tarantella" cost me a tie yesterday because I spelled it "tarantala."

Re: Wednesday, March 13, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Forgot to mention in my previous comments that I laughed out loud at DD2 as Yogesh pretended to pull a common name out of thin air. I got his humor immediately since I had the clue solved as soon as it was revealed. Good one to show Yogesh is having fun even in a contest with high stakes. Yes, Yoge...

Re: 2024 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament

Victoria and Brandon are certainly worthy, but it also strikes me as a very Michael Davies decision to include them and not others, as noted. I think it's very clear the reason people like Scott and Steve were not included is entirely because Davies is calling the shots and he wants name recognition...

Re: 2024 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament

I'm a bit surprised to see Victoria Groce. There's no question she's a phenomenal quizzer, but she only won a single game on Jeopardy! Of course she did have to beat David Madden to do so.

I always assumed "realpolitik" was a word that originated in Communist Russia, which I'll admit probably shows some ignorance in what the term actually means. It just sounded commie to me, basically.

I thought the 92nd Street Y category was pretty cool. I didn't know anything about it previously.

I got FJ by knowing Ephesus is in modern day Turkey/Türkiye.

Re: Wednesday, March 6, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I guess I got lucky because I thought of the Emancipation Proclamation and never looked back. Troy's domination would surprise no one who also plays LearnedLeague. Dude's a machine. He's won the league championship four times in ten years. I’d be careful drawing too many parallels between LL and J!...

Well, I got slaughtered yesterday by Amy Schneider. She ran the board and I only got two right (Gadsden and Neptune). Cowboy Bebop: WTF? At least I'd heard of my other wrong answers. :D

I thought Metamorphosis would be close enough on Q2, but no such luck. I still did pretty getting 7 right and 86th percentile. You were explicitly told not to type the Kafka story That's not true. The question said "not to be confused with a 1915 story by Franz Kafka." I'm not sure why th...
