Re: Monday, March 18, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Between Yogesh's comment in lieu of a response in FJ and Ken's comment afterward, the two of them exactly echoed what has been going through my mind since I watched (astonished) how Yogesh lost the Game 1 that he should have won, by wagering $0 in FJ and allowing himself to be caught from behind ins...

Re: Monday, February 26, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
i wonder if anyone else is old enough (or weird enough) to come up with the correct response "What is 'Marching to Pretoria'?" because of the long-ago Smothers Brothers recording of that song.... That would be I. Interesting. I thought that would be no one. I don't know if it's any consol...

Re: Tuesday, December 19, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Thanks to all who have helped clarify. Of course I'm aware that a J! production is way more than fresh clues. And as I said, even given that they have clues (fresh or otherwise) the production requires way more people than writers. It was my impression during the strike that many other TV people joi...

Re: Tuesday, December 19, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Pardon me if this has been discussed before, but.... After MONTHS of recycling veteran contestants through game after game in the Second Chance Tournaments and Jeopardy! Wildcard Tournaments, now they give us MORE Second chance people? Have TPTB simply decided to do away with the audition process a...

Re: FJs for the 12/11/23 week
I knew Southwest was relatively newer, but doubted that it had 15% of the market, so I went with United. Boo, hiss....
I even thought, if they ever HAD 15% of the market, I bet they lost a big chunk after their world-class SNAFU a year ago.
Shows what I know.

I have many times heard the quote (here attributed to Mencken) that Puritanism is "the fear that someone, somewhere, may be..." HAVING FUN, not HAPPY. Anyone else?

"In disarray in 1915?" Bought at auction?" "Donated to the British government?"
All I could think of was "What is Parliament?"
OK, not really, but c'mon....

Re: Friday, July 21, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Must be the easiest Fourth-Podium-Win ever for me: Paavo Nurmi, loan/lone, (Israel) Bonds, Greece, dense/dents, cash/cache, Matterhorn, Bering, Nutmeggers, Kim Philby, Broca ('s area), Alfred Hitchcock: 12 TSs for $11,200, so in the lead going into FJ even without counting my getting the two DDs in ...

Re: Friday, July 14, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Gotta say, that was fun to watch. I don't think I realized how much I miss this level of play. Only seven triple stumpers, of which I picked up 2. Looking forward to seeing Daniel again on Monday. I wonder if he had the possibility of appearing in a College tournament and opted for this instead. If...

Re: Fourth Podium Poll for Wednesday, July 12, 2023
A couple of weeks ago three J! contestants were stumped on "Our Father, who art in heaven, (blank) be thy name.
This game, they can't identify the most famous of the Psalms the 23rd, as even being a Psalm.
Doesn't anybody know anything about the Bible any more?
Not even a little?

Re: Fourth Podium Poll for Tuesday, July 4, 2023
I said Pluto because IIRC its orbit is within the orbit of Neptune PART OF THE TIME. I'm guessing that's not what they meant. As for FJ, it was no surprise that this difficult clue was a TS, as so many people know a little bit about Classical Music but not this much. Since that is right up my alley ...

Re: Tuesday, June 27, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
1. Nice comeback by Doc Chris, from in the hole at the end of the first round to the first podium tomorrow. Congrats! B. Madison Square Garden + Johnson & Johnson + Balsa + Switzerland + variable + Eris + an all-in get with Kipling gives me yet another win from the fourth podium. Way too many of...

Re: Tuesday, June 20, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Meanwhile, yeah, I also won this game from the fourth podium with ouch, Jackie Robinson, Promontory Note, 101 (the math clue), library paste (which, as a good boomer, I used to eat like peanut butter), the Falkland Islands, and a sole get on FJ. Which I believe is the lowest total I have ever recor...

Re: Fourth Podium Poll for Tuesday, June 20, 2023
Every time I see "ouch" in one of these posts I have to remind myself that that was the correct response to one of the clues in this game, and not a commentary on the game itself. I stood and stared at several of these TS's and still won from the fourth podium. I almost missed FJ because i...

Re: Tuesday, June 20, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Being a contestant this season (and a losing one to boot) I don't want to seen as player-bashing... But these games lately have really put opus to work on 4th podium polls. How can you not imagine what 45 Sq ft looks like? I admittedly thought a table tennis table was actually smaller than that, bu...

Re: Wednesday, May 31, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I Love it when i get a Triple Stumper on a FJ. Me too. And it seems to happen a lot lately, which I do NOT attribute to a sudden upsurge in my brain power. In this case, as soon as I read this clue, I thought "Man, is that Prime, Grade-A negbait for softball!" I frankly would not have bee...

Re: Tuesday, May 30, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
DD1 was a coin flip for me. Does the famous abolitionist stop publishing when the war is over (1865) or when the Emancipation Proclamation is issued (1863)? Mrs. Penguin and I both went the wrong way with 1863. Luckily for Diandra, she guessed right and DOUBLED her money. Me too: same question, sam...

I would have had a 5-for-five week except I also misspelled "Beatrice and Benedick."
Except I misspelled it as "Antony & Cleopatra."
