I don't recall getting sugar with it, just some godawful tasting drops in my mouth.
But in context of the clue, I guess the writer thought spoonful of sugar was more melodious than a lump of sugar.

NHO on the FJ!, having never seen the movie, but no chance to WAG, as my husband started singing it. Badly.

He had an pretty big afro and of course a mustache back in the day. NBC's 70s daytime executive Lin Bolen called him and a few other hosts she hired for NBC game shows back then(Chuck Woolery, Geoff Edwards, and Jim Mckrell) "My studs". Trebek did High Rollers and quite a few other game shows before Jeopardy!(and did Classic Concentration for several years after getting the J! gig). He also had 10 years before that as a host on the CBC doing some game and other types of shows. His hair got thinner in the early days of Trebek J! and I guess you could say gradually a little lighter in color.BADuBois wrote: Once again, Alex --- at least to me --- seems to be doing a lot of accents and impersonations... Alex as Mike Tyson? And not to pick on Alex --- okay, just for a moment or two --- some of the old pix from the TOC photos make him look like a 1970s porn star... ahem, so I've been told.

All I could think of the pig question was "pigs see us as gods" and ended up clamming.
Never heard of A Spoonful of Sugar either. Before the break I listed all the Disney songs I know, and there were only 2: Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and Colors of the Wind. Looking back on it I've heard of a few other Mary Poppins ones I guess.

How's that again?TenPoundHammer wrote:To me, nothing at all seemed like it would fit.
I went into FJ thinking it would be a song from a cartoon. The only Disney cartoon I could think of from the '60s was The Jungle Book, which was easy enough to rule out for having a possible song. Trying to think of songs instead of movies was the way for me to break away from animation and get FJ right.
I guess Mike really wants players who get FJ right from second place to be champions. Perhaps it should be included in the canon of wagering strategy that if you're in second place, and your doubled score's hundreds digit is the same as first's current one, you might try going for it all, just in case your opponent bets an exact thousand to offer you a tie. I know this isn't the first time it's played out that way.

For those who like to play the FJ Guesstimania game, a little inside tip: despite FJ being super easy, don't guess 100 for today. I forgot to RTFCategory and said "Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies instead, thinking it had to be a "normal" song. Probably would have got FJ if I remembered, but I guess we'll never know now ...

Leave it to me to complicate things. Ascot? No, I went for the other piece of clothing and guessed smoking jacket. Judges?
Anyone who got self-referential in "Rent" take a bow.
Any wise guys like me do Saints and Pelicans to mess with Alex? There was no chance to hear someone mess up the receiver clue and guess Moss with two guys who know their sports.
The writers wasted all their brainpower with the Bingo theme of the DJ! round and made too many easy clues. Besides the ones listed already I was insulted that an ice cream hint was needed to go with two names of The Banana Splits.
Mike's Shrevesport and Alabama setting up rebounds cost him nothing fortunately for him. I've seen other players lose for even one of those type errors.
Chlorophyll for folic acid in the DD played by Chris at least fills the requirement to guess something. If he gets that then the match could have been his assuming no monkey business on his FJ wager.
In my first game I had an Oscar-Winning Songs category where I got 2/5 and they were both Disney, so tonight's category was one I gave a positive reaction. For the clue it was 1964 = Mary Poppins and vaccine = medicine, so "A Spoonful of Sugar."
Why Mike would offer a tie to Chris I don't know. Perhaps he is a Rams fan?

An all in bet from second wouldn't have been a bad idea.seaborgium wrote: I guess Mike really wants players who get FJ right from second place to be champions. $19,800-MSBIW-$11,799
$13,900-MSBIW-$6,599
$10,600
Third place needed to bet at least $1,200 to cover the leader's MSBIW, so she could well drop to $9,399, which also top's second's MSBIW. So he might as well go for it all.

Lame stories from the challengers. Being on the board of a park? Once had Bulls season tickets? Their other stories must have really been bad.

Close call on Pelicans. I guess technically when their season ended, they immediately "converted," since the next time they play, that'll be their name. But when the show taped, obviously, they were still the Hornets.
FJ I started singing halfway thru the clue. Well, the chorus anyway. Don't remember how it starts.

I knew the FJ! song right away , but wasn't real sure where the title stopped. Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down- in the most delightful way.

Ooh, sorry. It's "helps," not "makes" (though I won't complain if you count it as a get in the poll).billy pilgrim wrote:I knew the FJ! song right away , but wasn't real sure where the title stopped. Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down- in the most delightful way.
