You would have never known if it hadn't said "ring ding ding ding dinger ding."
...

I came up with nerf for FJ tonight, but wasn't real confident. That just seemed like the only thing that made any sense whatsoever, but it was a somewhat odd clue.

I just got the courage to listen to that entire song today.

Once I saw the first clue, I precalled Peter Jackson...

Just more evidence that my precalling ability is the worst.

Also, vote here for 'Nerf'. I counted it once Alex said "[Cori] got it half right"...but the Maggie confirmation didn't hurt any!
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Mrs. Penguin pre-called Drew Carey. I pre-called Kirstie Alley. After a second's thought, I added Oprah. After another second, I tossed in Rush Limbaugh. So I batted .333 on that against Mrs. P's 1.000--all because I can't keep my big mouth shut. As a consolation prize I ran the category.

Anyone else hear Marc say "Kristie Alley" rather than Kirstie?

I precalled Egypt for the old leaders category. I remember him being shot the same year as Reagan, so it was an easy leap to Mubarak.

I did. I was waiting for a score adjustment, then figured maybe my hearing isn't the best.

I was flummoxed by the FJ clue and threw out Nerf as a wild guess and was shocked when it was correct.
Did anyone else come up with Anwar Sadat as being in charge of Egypt 30 years ago? I was a little fuzzy on the dates, but turns out I was only off by a couple of years as he was assassinated 32 years ago in October 1981.
I did, instinctively.

I did...I'm old enough to remember when he was head of Egypt.

Yep, and I was surprised when they never corrected it.

On Jeopardy FB: "Today's show takes a little trip South of the Border, so we want to know: What's your favorite California locale? COMMENT below!"

South of which border? Do they mean Baja California? I hitchhiked half of it, which would be an anecdote if I ever got on.

So did anyone else see Mary Murrell's outfit and immediately think of Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner?

Image

It was more than just the jacket, which is a different cut. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Anyone else know Hercule Poirot's nationality because of Murder by Death? I suspect I'd have picked up the factoid at some point anyway. But it was James Coco's performance as Milo Perrier--the Poirot parody--that really made it stick in my mind. When Mary said "What is French?" I shouted at the TV in my best faux Poirot accent, "I'm not a Frenchy, I'm a BELGIE!"

I've listened to it several times now. I can hear it either way. But when I slow it down to 1/7 the speed, I definitely hear "Kirstie".

Here's a link to an MP3 you can download if you want to have a listen. I slowed down the moment when he says the name.

Which wager?

Post by Vermonter »

For those of you who are (rightly) averse to the thread I started on a specific wagering situation, that situation applies here - although I swear I hadn't seen the game before I posted!

Cori had a choice to make: no more than 1,000 to lock out Mary, or wager at least 1,400 (or 2,800 if you prefer a strict 4/5 strategy) to cover a zero by Marc. She might have seen that Mary's rational maximum was 1,600, and gone with the more-aggressive range capped at 3,800. Interesting that the larger end of that spectrum would have cost her the game, while at the lower end would have won it for her, thanks to Mary's improper wager.

Of course, Cori's everything-but-two-dollars wager is indefensible. :)

I hope the "2" isn't a spoiler for the number of wins she'll rack up ;)

Shouldn't that factoid be de riguer for trivia folks?

I could only think of bean bags from the clue and went with toss-a-cross (the tic-tac-toe game). I knew it was most likely wrong, but was worth a shot and better than nothing.
