And you're not going to guess whom the South Africans beat in the final that year. Absolutely bizarre year, and South Africa won by default when India withdrew because of South Africa's apartheid policies. Because the best way to stick it to such a regime is to have your team of dark-skinned players refuse to show up a team of racists, giving the racists a title.

India's team was two brothers, basiclally.

12. Sports at the Movies
Sports have long been a popular subject for movie plots. Select one of the movies below and tell me which sport is the focus of the film.

Breaking Away-cycling (10)-This 1979 movie about a group of college cyclists was nominated for Best Picture Oscar, losing to Kramer vs. Kramer. I was a little surprised this was the sheep, but that's the nature of the game.

The Hustler-pool (5)-a 1961 movie starring Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. Pro pool player Rudolf Walderone claimed to be the inspiration for Gleason's character and later adopted the stage name of Minnesota Fats. Newman was nominated for Best Actor as Fast Eddie Felson. He lost to Maximillain Schell for Judgement at Nuremburg, but won the Oscar for the sequel, The Color of Money in 1986.

Gus (4)-A Disney 1979 movie about a mule that kicks field goals and leads his team to the Super Bowl. Tim Conway played the head coach. Bob Crane plays a broadcaster in his final film role with Johnny Unitas as his partner. I loved this movie as a kid.

It Happens Every Spring-baseball (3)-A 1949 movie about a college chemistry teacher who develops a substance that repels wood and becomes a major league star. One of my favorite sports movies. It features Alan Hale as a college player, so we get to him him say "Right, Professor" long before he landed on Gilligan's Island.

Alyssa
zackharov
nserven

The Fish that saved Pittsburgh-basketball (3)-The third of three movies on this list I've actually seen, this 1979 movie is about a bad basketball team that is turned around when the team signs a ragtag group who were all born under the sign of Pisces.

Slap Shot-Hockey(1)
-Paul Newman pops up again in this 1977 film about a roughneck minor league hockey team.

mennoknight

Victory-cricket (1)
-I had never heard of this movie before putting together this quiz. I came up with the other movie, which was also called Escape to Victory, but was released under the shorter title in North America. I stumbled across this 2009 movie about an Indian cricket team but didn't think anyone would answer it. Of course, someone did and I decided to count it separately.

This was one of only two questions for which I knew a correct answer (and for each I knew more than one). That is why, in spite of the prize which I would do anything for, I didn't enter.

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

And now for the final standings. In any game, there can only be one winner. Only one person can finish first and receive the honor of being BOTM. But we do have 59 losers and one person outdid the competition, finishing with 133 points. I wanted that person to have something as well, so dhkendall, this is for you.

I'm not surprised that those guys have their faces covered. Real Maple Leafs fans would kill them for not appreciating all the Leafs do toward making (the first round of) the playoffs each year.

I'm sure it's my eyes, but where did econgator finish? I was looking for his name to see how close he was to the Bucs prize and can't spot him.

No, it was my error. He was an honorary Canadian for this game.
