Sports Jeopardy - Ep. 4 [Spoilers]
Well, another one is up so I thought that I would start the post. I think that the judges gave Leo a lot of slack, the regular J! Game would be much stricter.
Interesting fact about Nate Thurmond is that the fourth element of his quadruple double in 1974 came in blocked shots (12).
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nate_Thurmond
Lach Trash: bank shot, Earl Anthony, Jan Stenerud, Cypress Point.
As for FJ, no clue, never seen that mascot from the 1994 World Cup.

Did they say it was from that World Cup? Patrick only said it was the "FIFA World Cup", I thought... which could have meant this year's in Brazil or even Mexico's in 1986. We probably used some sort of eagle for 1994, I would guess.

Good point, I couldn't think outside of the USA. Yep, it was Brazil. Link below:TomKBaltimoreBoy wrote:Did they say it was from that World Cup? I'm glad you looked that up, I wrote down 2014 World Cup and was worried it wasn't right. As it turns out, the mascot when it was here was a dog named Striker, the World Cup Pup. I think we had an eagle for the 1984 Olympics.Ryno wrote:Good point, I couldn't think outside of the USA. Yep, it was Brazil. Kind of a sloppy game. I showed my age my guessing World B. Free for the basketball player. I got FJ, the first one I've gotten right so far.

A good score for me this time around: 22,500, helped by running LOGOS and GOLF, OF COURSE. My only neg came on a 500 point clue.
No shot whatsoever in Final.

Re: Sports Jeopardy - Ep. 4 [Spoilers]
34/48, all DDs right, so of course I miss the FJ! clue. My first instict was the 2014 World Cup, but had no feeling that Armadillo was okay for Brazil. Instead I hit the time machine and guessed 1968 Olympics to keep the critter in North America.
Earl Anthony and Peter Weber stumping the players were two arrows through the heart. Jan Stenerud just had the wrong three contestants. I'm sure other combinations would not have let that one by. Pinehurst was hit, but not Cypress? I think the writers had the valuing correct even though it did not play that way.
The DD in QBS/MLB was wad + wallet. Of course it was going to be Elway.

Leo shouldn't have been given credit on the Augusta National clue. I'm not sure what the judges were thinking there.

Wow, that was the toughest Sports FJ yet. I was also going the same way as the contestants, with college football, however I thought the Sun Bowl in El Paso.
I got 40/48, including 23/24 in Double Jeopardy.
Lach Trash: volleyball, earl anthony, pete weber, mahmoud abdul rauf, jan stenerud, cypress point
I've done very well in the first two rounds of each show, however Final Jeopardy, not so much. Only 1/4.
Leo definitely got some free passes in the Jeopardy Round, and he should've wagered more on the final Daily Double.
Pretty cool to see Betsy risk it in FJ. We'll definitely see more of that as the season goes on.

Re: Sports Jeopardy - Ep. 4 [Spoilers]
The regular show doesn't penalize for phrasing in the first round(except on the Daily Double, which someone once got negged for), but players are penalized in DJ!. I suppose that might be true in Sports Jeopardy!, too. Leo would have needed to wager $25 more on the final DD and get the last clue after that, which he didn't to get a lock-tie scenario.psgola wrote:LINK to Episode 4: http://www.crackle.com/c/Sports_Jeopard ... 4/2493775/

Re: Sports Jeopardy - Ep. 4 [Spoilers]
Heh. Jimmy picked the Rockets for winning the NBA title just around the time I did the same thing for the 49ers in the NFL, but I decided to adopt my hometown team in college. Not that anyone cares.
This was the first game where I really thought that maybe I should have tried out--except during that bowling category LOL.
Betting that having a sepak takraw clue came out of a reject for the Onion category: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Pn9cEsjv1w (which is why I got that one right)
Also I got FJ completely out of the dark--going entirely off of the F in the thing's name, and it took me 25 seconds--but I still feel I might have seen it scanning the thread for the link. I'll give myself credit though

Re: Sports Jeopardy - Ep. 4 [Spoilers]
The key word the judges were probably looking for was "Augusta" so when he said "Masters Course at Augusta" they gave it to him, although when he gave his initial response of "The Masters," I would've ruled him incorrect at that point.heelsrule1988 wrote:Leo shouldn't have been given credit on the Augusta National clue. Hey, I knew Stenerud, and my birth certificate suggests I am not an old fart, though my hairline says otherwise.

Re: Sports Jeopardy - Ep. 4 [Spoilers]
Nothing to do with the game, but two recent sports items caught my eye:
Years ago "Sports Illustrated" coined the term "Jock Caucus" about former professional athletes in the U.S. Congress and it may end for the first time since 1961 depending on how some November elections turn out: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/poli ... /17190643/
The Denver Broncos are now "America's Team" replacing the Dallas Cowboys who dropped to 4th: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... er=ya5nbcs

I don't know if anyone is pointing this out or keeping track, but Betsy Schroeder was also a one-day champ on regular Jeopardy:
