Ditto. I also thought that 'I' looked like James Cook but I was not aware that he explored Alaska.BobF wrote:I almost went with A Zebulon Pike but decided against it.
My hunch was that Henson would get all of the attention and Peary would be ignored. One tiny victory in my losing battle against TD psychology.

Same here. I debated on many others that I just wasn't sure about, then settled on Sacajawea, which I was about 99.9% sure was correct. I'm a little embarrassed since I have a rather extensive stamp collection from way back, but I haven't gone through it in probably 10 years or more, so maybe I'm excused.BobF wrote:I almost went with A Zebulon Pike but decided against it.

I thought the smaller, less distinct pictures might get more attention. That's why I went with Henson instead of Leif Erikson.jjwaymee wrote:My hunch was that Henson would get all of the attention and Peary would be ignored.

What kills me about this game is when you think it over, and the logic that you use works out to be true, and you still get stung.
I sheeped with Alan Shepherd and figured people would stay away, because Shepherd and Glenn are often confused for each other, and you want to make sure you get the guy right. Turns out a handful of people picked John Glenn, but it didn't keep a bunch more from Shepherd.
I darn near went with Pike for Fremont, but wasn't 100% sure it was Pike. One day I'm going to do this and just pick the most obvious answer every time. Columbus gets two, and don't tell me anyone on here did not know who he was, that 1492 thing is kinda a give away.

Having owned most all of these stamps in my youth, I knew all of them. I figured that Erikson had the least ToM on the stamp, so I went with him.Sherm wrote:I darn near went with Pike for Fremont, but wasn't 100% sure it was Pike. Too hard to read. I can barely see the 1492 now that you've pointed it out.Sherm wrote: Columbus gets two, and don't tell me anyone on here did not know who he was, that 1492 thing is kinda a give away.

Don't you hate when you think of something like this, and you just can't let it go, even when you know most of the people who read it are going to say, "He just can't help himself."RandyG wrote:C'mon folks.... how could Shepard not Sheep?

Back during TD 185, I had a picture ID question. Alan Shepard was an answer, but went unused, even by all the cheaters! Therefore I'd surely pick up a singleton this time around!RandyG wrote:C'mon folks.... how could Shepard not Sheep?

10. HERMIONE is a character in The Winter’s Tale. HERMIONE GRANGER is one of the top 9 Harry Potter characters most mentioned by name. Name another Harry Potter character who is one of the nine most mentioned by name in the series. (8 possible answers)
The second question where all the answers were used - not surprising, since there were so few of them. Rather than get a longer list of eligible answers, I tried to make the cutoff between the last eligible and the first ineligible one as large as possible. If anyone's interested in looking at the full stats, you might like the quiz here.

Re: TD 214: Ladies of Shakespeare Know Who I Am
Thank you very much for reconsidering this. I'm in first place - woo-hoo!eboettch wrote:Thank you for all your feedback, and especially for expressing it in a respectful manner. Thanks also for your patience while I weigh your concerns.
The original ruling on "I Will Akways Love You" was made out of a desire for consistency - it is much easier for me to give the same treatment to all players if the rules have no wiggle room. Grading on a "I know what you meant" basis scares me because I cannot read your mind, so I grade on what you express in your entries. Hence rule #10, above, which, though it doesn't say this outright, makes it clear that the test is an answer's being aurally sound, not intent. I feel that since I messaged people their answers and allowed for revisions, they could catch and fix their own mistakes.
However, I'm going to go ahead and mark this as correct. I can justify doing this for the following reasons:
a) "k" and "l" are next to each other on a standard keyboard, making it plausible that this is a typo.
b) "Akways" is not a real word, making it plausible that this is a typo.
I will look at the grading for future questions in this light. For past incorrect answers, I do not believe these reasons apply (and reason b is moot when it comes to people's names, as there's not an ironclad definition of a "real name".)
Again, thanks for your patience. I know this change might upset some people, and I'm sorry about that. However, it will stay final.
The penalty for missing an identifying letter will remain the same, though in hindsight I should have BMS'ed people on those, and I'll keep that in mind for if I ever host again.
Now. I'll post the revised standings (should just be Peggles and Tpmorrison affected), and then we'll be off to something less serious, like destructive hurricanes.

Re: TD 214: Ladies of Shakespeare Know Who I Am
I played that Sporcle game recently, and almost answered Voldemort, but went with Ginny on a misguided hunch. I think she's more prominent in the movies, while others like Hagrid and Draco get somewhat less screen time. I suppose a large number of the mentions in the books must be when people talk about them even when they're not taking part in the action.

Good decision with well thought out reasoning. I like quizmasters who are willing to bend from their original rulings when it seems justified, and aren't stubborn for no reason.eboettch wrote:Thank you for all your feedback, and especially for expressing it in a respectful manner. Taking the earlier ruling into consideration, I should probably be credited for Pocahontas, as I obviously ment Sacagawea. Just a typo, the letters are like right next to each other. No?eboettch wrote:Incorrect responses - 18 points

Re: TD 214: Ladies of Shakespeare Know Who I Am
11. MIRANDA is a character in The Tempest. ERNESTO MIRANDA was a notable Supreme court plaintiff (Miranda v. Arizona, 1966). Identify the plaintiff associated with the defendant and year of a Supreme Court decision below. Please identify which letter you are identifying the plaintiff for in your answer.
BIG mea culpa here in that I didn't realize until late last Sunday that K. had two possible answers, based on how I worded the question - Sebelius was the original plaintiff until she resigned in April 2014, then Burwell became the plaintiff. Even though I was going for the person mentioned in the decision, I think the "associated with" wording is loose enough that I'll accept Sebelius, because she was associated with it before Burwell was.
