Maybe you have to be Canadian to know the Chinook wind? That was a tough one.

Are 5 timers guaranteed? If there are too many do the extras go the next year?
Yes. As far as I know, number of game wins come first. then the money. Someone can be a 5 time champ with $1 each day and still make the ToC.

Correct. Michael is currently behind John, Vaughn, Kristin, and Elliot in ToC precedence.

I've seen some other posts on this board that indicate this is still an open question after the "sky's-the-limit" rule was brought in. When champions were retired, there were more 5 game winners than ToC spots available in 2001, so the last two chronologically were held over to the following ToC in 2003. Since then, there have always been fewer eligible 5+ game winners than available berths.

April Fool! The actual game will be aired later tonight.
Now that would be quite the April Fool's Day stunt. Tomorrow Michael is back with two new opponents and Alex tells us tonight was a joke with Kerry and Max being J! staffers. That would be one way to top Bob Barker's return on TPIR this morning.

On Live with Kelly & Michael (Kelly's husband Mark Consuelos guest co-hosting today) Kelly announced she was expecting a fourth child and the audience reaction indicated there were a lot of suckers in the seats.

**************
Vaughn, John and Kristin: Were the three of you around a burning cauldron lately? Something sure worked on Michael tonight. How else to explain Smokey Robinson and the Supremes.

Michael could still make the TOC although he might need some combination of all the previous factors that have kept players from making the TOC they qualified for in their original run. Eye of school requirement, toe of military duty, wood of scandal, and tongue of extended run...

*************
Fine I'll do it since no one else has. I could have solved that FJ! clue back when I was watching Hong Kong Phooey on Saturday mornings.

Interestingly, this was today's featured clip on the "Andy Griffith Show Fans" page on Facebook: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBuPQgV8yBM

Ha, good one! You called my 40-year-old TV reference and raised me at least 10 years.

We could write a book, "All We Really Need To Know To Win On Jeopardy! We Learned By Watching TV." ;)

Coryat: $29,000
36 R/0 W
DD: 0/3
FJ:  Latin roots (etymology, not ethnicity) FTW!
LT: The Miracles, One Day At A Time, Grace Under Fire, hearts
C: Arizona, Ike Turner, Margaret Mitchell, 1991

It was inevitable that Michael was going to miss a couple of big DDs. Sorry to see it happen so soon. Well played, sir. Enjoy your nest egg. Or Maybach down payment. Whatever.

There's a hotel/casino on the Oregon coast called Chinook Winds which is owned by a confederation of tribes that, not surprisingly, includes the Chinook. There's also the Chinook salmon, which is native to the Pacific. I would never have associated Chinook with the Rockies.
Sprinkles are for winners.

This game should be example #1 for all eternity of how even great players can have an awful day.

This video would have been a big help to the players today.

Michael, great run. You were a lot of fun to watch. Boy, oh boy, did you hit an unfavorable set of boards. Missing those two DDs certainly hurt your chances. Easy, easy, FJ: I had it halfway through Alex's reading and was kind of shocked to realize that it was correct.

Maybe the players were trying to forget One Day At A Time? One of the worst sitcoms with a truly awful theme song. Anyway, a less than golden game with some easy TSs. It took me 5 seconds to get preamble in FJ. If the new winner is a volunteer guardian ad litem, she could really use the dough.

Speaking of dough, congrats to TPH on his new job. Best of luck!

If you want to wash the taste of "One Day at a Time" out of your mouth, you want to do it with something more palatable than "Everybody Loves Raymond".

I was expecting them to come back and accept your 'compilation' answer for the question about converting computer data into code. I don't remember exactly how it was worded, but it seems to me that could be considered to be what a compiler does. I think the question was worded a bit oddly... I think it would have been better if they just said 'data' instead of 'computer data'.
The clue specified a 10-letter word (encryption), so compilation wouldn't work.
Good point...Thanks! reminder to myself... always remember the category!

Obviously not your finest showing tonight, Michael, but great run all the same. I enjoyed watching you! Hope you get into the ToC.

Nah, young people are just clueless about the important stuff. ;)
Seriously, just when I thought the 'Mannix/Rockford Files' thing on Tuesday was bad enough, we get a wrong guess for Smokey's group, and a wronger-than the original wrong 'correction' on the title of Ray Romano's sitcom?(OK,that one seemed kind of...hubristic.)

floridagator wrote:Holy Mackerel! What a tremendous flame-out by Michael, back to back with one of the biggest paydays in history. I said on Monday that Michael's hubris would be his undoing. But I didn't expect him to see him spending so much of the game around zero and finish on the wrong side of it. Michael was well-matched by Kerry and Max, both very good contestants. Even so, they left a lot of fairly easy clues unanswered. I hope Kerry does well tomorrow.

FJ was instaget for me. I started by thinking through the Latin.
If you started somewhere and then you thought all the way through something, then it's not insta, is it? I have really come to hate that term.

Yep, I needed a salmon/helicopter/Pacific Northwest clue to get to Chinook, and even then, it'd be dicey. Of course, Apache also fits with helicopter.
