Re: Wikileaks
I thought I remembered being told we could get our episodes for $75. Still outrageous, but slightly more connected to reality. Now I'm not 100% sure that's what I heard.

Re: Wikileaks
That's true for current contestants--I sent a DVD copy of BADuBois's episode of The Chase to him just this week, as a matter of fact--but if they have 13,000 episodes, then there are tens of thousands of potential customers whose appearances predate DVR ubiquity. My dad was a 4-time champ on The Joker's Wild in the early '80s. I wouldn't pay $150 an episode, but I might consider paying $150 to get a DVD copy of his entire run.zakharov wrote:If Harry thinks that anyone is paying $150 for a 30-minute DVD in a world where DVRs exist he is completely out to lunch.

As much as I gripe about the celebrity games, I think I would enjoy a sports version.

I'm just curious whether it was just a DVD-R with Sharpie scribbled on it, or like a professionally-printed thing.

Certainly didn't happen to THIS Kids' Week player, that's for sure!
(then again, it was 2003 and I seem to recall we recorded my episode on a VHS)

My recollection was that it was actually $175 and you had to sign a really nasty-looking contract to get it. No thank you.jfrumkin wrote:I said $150 before, but I think you're right.patkav wrote:I thought I remembered being told we could get our episodes for $75. I actually lost one of my episodes off my DVR (because it was broadcast at a time the channel guide wasn't expecting it, and although I caught it, I failed to set it to never expire) but I have a somewhat lower-quality (but still good) digital copy courtesy of someone who didn't lose it.

Re: Wikileaks
The DVD looked like this. It came with my check and a list of phone numbers and addresses of all the kids. It only has my game on it, not any of the others. At the beginning of the recording, Johnny announces the show number, tape date, and air date, and there's blank space at the commercial breaks (besides two sponsor commercials, for I think Eggland and Meineke). Other than that, it was pretty much what we saw on TV.Robert K S wrote:Pics or it didn't happen.nightreign wrote:I got a DVD of my game for free. Kids Week perk?

I agree with this totally.Bamaman wrote:A DVD of every player's episode after they appear sounds like it would be a nice parting gift for the players and would not be hard or costly to do. I'm not saying go back 31 years and do it for everyone who has ever been on the show, but from this point forward.
Then again, getting a hotel to put the players up for free in exchange for a daily sponsors plug (like the Aleeve ads) would not be hard or costly to do, but they don't do that either.
Be alert. Stupid never takes a day off!

I'd probably pay $150 for that.

I'm sure it made for a great family moment for Maisie her last night before leaving for college that her dad came home with a good buzz before dinner.Skip,
Turns out I can't have dinner on Tuesday, though I can have a drink. It is Maisie's last night home for the summer and we are having a family meal. So I am canceling on my cousin as well. Let me know if Tuesday drinks work.

Whoops. I must have extrapolated from my knowledge that the second season was also several weeks shorter than the 230-episode seasons we've had since then, and assumed the same thing happened in the interim.Robert K S wrote:What's your reason for thinking Season 2 reruns got new episode numbers?seaborgium wrote:I hope any missing J! episodes are the season 1 and 2 reruns that got new episode numbers.

Too bad I don't know a boardie who records the games without the ads and could burn it onto a disc for me and all I'd have to do is buy the disc and pay postage.

I'd buy the DVD in a heartbeat. Has the professional Jeopardy logo, special announcements by Johnny, and most importantly no local affiliate trash on the screen.
