I may have been thoroughly outpaced, but I had a fun time anyway - not unlike my actual high school track experience. Thanks to 9021amyers for a great run!

This was a close game at the top, with the top nine places separated by only five points. It really came down to who made the best use of their PASS opportunities.

Points gained against the HARE in PASS opportunities
Caboom - 12
Peachbox - 6
Ryno - 11
Rackme32 - 5
econgator - 5
Vermonter - 5
MarkBarrett - 6
colonialrampage - 7
Coolcah36 - 4
  • Peachbox and Ryno were both awarded automatic Doubletons that they used on their highest-valued correct responses, but each also had an incorrect response. If either would have used their Doubleton on their incorrect response instead, Caboom would not have been the winner.
  • Rackme32 only gained 5 points against the HARE on his passes, and he didn't use any fouls at all. Had he used his fouls on the two questions he passed, and then used his passes on any two of Questions 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11, he would have been the winner.
  • econgator gained only 5 points on his passes, and lost 8 points on his fouls. If he had swapped his passes and fouls, he would have been the winner.

Many sources consider whiskies produced on the islands of Scotland as its own distinct style, but the Scotch Whisky Regulations consider them to be part of the Highland region. I decided that I would count any response of a collective group of Scottish islands as response of Highland, but since one island (Islay) is considered a region unto itself, I would count a response of any specific island other than Islay as incorrect. No one gave me a specific island response, but Magna responded with the Hebrides (an island chain), which I gave credit for.
Fwiw, I changed my answer to "Islands" when prompted to "BLS". :) My answer was inspired by a very blustery evening I spent opposite the Isle of Skye, sampling single malts. *hic*

Also fwiw, I see that some sources include the islands as a separate region.

Looking forward to firing up that grill! :)

So TD252 is finished while TD251 is just starting the 6th inning.

Time for my Pete Rose impersonation: Anybody want to take bets on if TD253 will finish before TD251?

Wow, my first win (and first podium finish as well). And it only took a TD with specific questions about Finland and sports in it.

Out of the 14 questions, 6 were not related to sports. I used a help on four of those. I suppose it's clear what my weaknesses are, anything non-sports. At least I used the helps in the correct order, fouling on questions with hares of 3 and 5 and passing on questions with hares of 5 and 7. In a TD this tight one wrong decision would have cost me the victory (well, going with Real Madrid instead of Ronaldo or ManU was a horrid choice, so I suppose I should say two wrong decisions would have cost me).

Congrats to the other podium finishers and thank you very much for a thoroughly entertaining TD!
