Brilliant. Sony never checks in on this board. That link should be perfectly safe.

It wasn't preempted by the Charleston station. I was busy today & saw no news so I was horrified to see what occurred in Paris. I thought DJ was much easier than the first round. Alex was impressive. I have very little knowledge of Greek mythology but I did a sporcle quiz yesterday & I guessed Pandora for this one. Toughest FJ of the week!

If the local station that airs "Jeopardy!" is affiliated with one of the networks, they can access that network's special news reports without clearance from anyone else.BennyBXB wrote:NBC in northeast PA didn't cut anything out for coverage, but NBC news is simulcast on ABC and FOX here so they would have had to get clearance from those networks as well.

For the kids week section of this TOC game they put up a photo of Stalin and asked you to name who it is.

Coryat: $31,400
42 R/4 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Nightmare, "The Mouth of the South" Ted Turner (DD)
I had about the ugliest start imaginable to this game, racking up $-3,800 in negs before the first commercial break. Alex continues to impress, but his greatest attribute, as with Ken Jennings, is his buzzer signaling device timing. I had no chance on FJ!, writing down Hera just to have something. Maybe it's time to break out the mythology book my wife bought me for my birthday last week.

Re: Friday, November 13, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
For fun I looked at TOC players in the doubling era who finished with 20K or more in the QF match and how they did the rest of the way:
Brian Weikle: 2nd
Alan Bailey: Semis
Tom Baker: Semis
Vik Vaz: 2nd
David Madden: Semis
Celeste DiNucci: Winner
Craig Westphal: Semis
Larissa Kelly: 2nd
Terry Linwood: Semis
Justin Bernbach: Semis
Joon Pahk: Semis
Mark Runsvold: Semis
Jason Keller: Semis
Keith Whitener: 2nd
Dan McShane: Semis
Arthur Chu: 2nd
Matt Jackson:
Kerry Greene:
Alex Jacob
What does it prove? I guess Matt, Kerry and Alex will not finish in third place?

Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will get taken down over time, but it will stick for a couple days and many will appreciate it. Re: Friday, November 13, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that/feels that way. At least as long as I've been paying attention, the show seems to have been pretty careful to keep the difficulty level of FJ! clues fairly consistent in the QF round of each tournament. So they have a good track record in that respect, but in the past couple of years it seems to be eroding.hbomb1947 wrote:It's extremely unfair that there was such a disparity in difficulty level between it, and, say, last night's cupcake FJ. Players' ability, not the writers, should determine who nabs the wild card slots. It wasn't a level playing field to qualify as a WC.
Strangely, Pandora was one of my precalls when the category was revealed, but when the clue came up I managed to talk myself out of it and WAG Hera. Duhhhrrrr.

No clue on this one, knew nothing about a flood in Greek myth. I wrote down Minerva just to have something.

And Pandora had nothing to do with the flood anyway.
I'm curious how many of the people who got this clue right got it because the poor grammar of the clue misled them into thinking that the clue was asking for the person who repopulated the Earth, and Pandora seemed to them like a logical response if that was the question that was being posed.

Congrats to Alex on the win! I haven't been able to watch the games but I am glad that I got to see this one.
I loved that there was a clue on Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention! It was probably overvalued, though. In fact, this board felt very much on the easy side.
I was also surprised by Alex not going TDD, but I thought that his wager was fine.
I am sorry that it didn't work out for him, but props to Michael for making the correct DD wager. He also did well to get himself back in the game and still be in contention for a wild card spot.
Add me as another one who lost the coin flip between Gaia and Pandora.
For the semifinal match ups I will guess:
Kerry vs. Dan vs. John
Matt vs. Catherine vs. Andrew
Alex vs. Brennan vs. Vaughn

Re: Friday, November 13, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
The grammar was my issue with it. I got it from the audience with less than complete certainty, but I was into the second half of the think music before I realized that that long appositive was not intended to be a description of the person the clue was asking for. I kept thinking, "But repopulating the earth IS the myth of Deucalion and Pyrrha." (I think there was a story about them in my Latin II book.)Elijah Baley wrote:Not to mention that it was grammatically ambiguous.JonathanHenke wrote:How on earth was I supposed to have gotten that Final Jeopardy, though? Don't worry: Sony will just disable the video from playing in the U.S.; it won't count as a copyright "strike" against your account. And it might even still be viewable in other countries!chad1m wrote:Hence the reason it is uploaded to my secondary account.

Re: Friday, November 13, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Last season nearly every game was up about a day after it aired. Not so this year so they seem to be cracking down more.
It is their right to block it but given the situation, they may let this one slide, just my opinion.

People have circulated them by PM in the past. This game was probably missed by more viewers, though. Not sure how much more time consuming it would be. The desire to be cautious about sharing the link is valid, though Golf's snideness, as usual, was uncalled for. Chad, it is nice of you to share it.Sherm wrote:Thanks for posting, I'm sure it will get taken down over time, but it will stick for a couple days and many will appreciate it. Thank you for posting this. This was the match I was most looking forward to (go Alex!) and it was pre-empted here.chad1m wrote:If today's tragic events made you miss Jeopardy!'s last Tournament of Champions quarterfinal, watch:

What is the Board etiquette on posting the FJ answer and responses when The FJ Guy does not post promptly? I pieced it together from other posts, The Final Wager, Twitter, etc., but was hoping someone who did see the episode would fill in the blanks, as I have seen done before. The placeholder is still holding, as of a few minutes ago.
This has been a fantastic tournament so far. I think most everyone is quite evenly matched, with Matt and Alex in a class of their own. I hope we see them in the finals. Their different styles will be fun to watch!

Stanislaus Jacob wrote:I wouldn't go that far - more like "Think of a woman from Greek mythology - probably mortal [although two of our contestants did guess goddesses] - Helen of Troy or her contemporary Penelope seems too late to be the mother of someone who repopulated the Earth - so Pandora seems like a good guess."JonathanHenke wrote:How on earth was I supposed to have gotten that Final Jeopardy, though? When I read this clue I froze for a moment, thinking "how in hell would I know?!"
After a few seconds something from deep in the brain vault whispered that I had read something about this regarding Pandora.
That was the only thing I could come up with, and fortunately I was right. Didn't get my fantasy 10-for-10 FJ in the tournament, but got a very respectable 4-for-5 in Week 1.
Indeed, outstanding win by Alex, who now looks like the guy to challenge Matt. Really looking forward to the semifinals and finals.
