"What's up with that" is called the luck of the draw. After we all take the online quiz, the non-passers are of course immediately eliminated. Passers are put into pools corresponding to their preferred audition cities (I chose Lexington for my audition city this year, so when I passed I went into that pool).

But.....(big but).....they just aren't going to audition everyone who passes, and it seems each year they have too many passers for the slots available in most or all cities. So they choose some and not others. Whether the choosing is random, or by score, or whether they pass over people who have auditioned before and not been chosen, only they know.

FWIW I passed the online quiz the first year it was offered (2006) and got an invite to a live audition (obviously, no Call). I also passed the quiz in 2009 and 2011 but did not get invited.

Of course I plan to be back taking the quiz in a couple of months. There's a fine line between perseverance and perseveration. I figure I'll keep trying until they choose me, or they tell me to please stop bothering them, or until I just can't pass the quiz any more.

Better luck to us both in 2012.

My first audition was in May 1987 in a big room in an Albany Hotel. Hand-written test, then we all watched a recent J! episode while they were scored. I didn't make the cut, though the pretty young lady sitting to my immediate right did a tad better (http://www.j-archive.com/showplayer.php?player_id=689).

No more tries until the online tests began- have taken 3, invited to 2 auditions.

Is it possible for me to be ranked as a Contributor? I've started tracking the Coryats again.

You become a Contributor once you've made 10 posts. Interestingly enough, you can be assigned one of the "special" ranks, but not one of the ones that it automatically assigns based on the number of posts you've made. Hang in there!

OK. Thanks to thejeopardyfan for telling me about this thread. I was told I was labelled "newbie" - which is fine until I saw all the custom monikers.

I took the test FOUR times, got called, was an alternate, and then had to wait nearly a year to play.

Like Seaborgium and aggiebud, came in 3rd in TWO tournaments, and get slightly pissed off by pretensions that aren't pretentious enough ( last night - Alex pronounced Battle of Agincourt with an English reading and then to make it French, read Agincourt as though it were French - French name is Azincourt, no g at all. ruffles me- what can I say?, I'm ruffled.).

I beat MDaunt, kinda.

So I guess Jeopardy UToCer. (add apostrophe if you like). OR
since i was on the billboard with Brad and Ken for a few days before the finals

One-time Jeopardy! Billboard Model.

(i'll take UToC'er).

If kids week counts, I wouldn't mind the champion distinction.

I was not aware that "kinda" meant "like a red-headed rented mule".

I'm technically in the Contestant Pool (so no online test for me), but I'd like my rank to be Member of our Studio Audience, if that works. That way, I may be eligible to win a door prize...if I can just find that ticket I got when I entered. I know it's here somewhere... :(

If you're THAT much into getting a few dozen bottles of Aleve, I'm sure I can stop by the drugstore and mail them to you ...
