Columbus Dispatch article on Jeopardy college tryout

Emily Bingham is probably one of the most underrated quizbowl players in the country. She seems to know every piece of trivia about every book I've ever heard of, and seems to have a good base of knowledge in lots of other subject areas, as she frequently puts up 100+ point games on regular and slightly above regular difficulty questions. She seems to know a lot about recent pop culture as well. I hope she gets selected.

Yeah, I wish that while they were here, they would've held an adult tryout, too, and invited everyone within a 75 mile radius that got at least 40 on the most recent tryout test. However, I'm glad that they decided to not just invite Emily Bingham, but two other Wright State people to the audition. When the Fleming version started, having a two-year branch campus of Miami University and Ohio State in the Dayton area was just an idea in the Ohio General Assembly. By the time in transformed into a four-year university with a graduate school, the Fleming version was just about to end. Given how the College Tournament usually has student from famous private liberal arts colleges, elite universities, and flagship state schools, it's good to see them broadening their horizons to colleges younger than the show itself.

Emily Bingham will in fact be participating in February's College Tournament. She's the fourth College Tournament participant to be representing a college that's newer than Jeopardy! (well, the Fleming version).
