casinos have moved to using shoes in blackjack, and have virtually eliminated single-deck games. this is because single-deck games are targets of card-counters, who have a greater advantage in a game with a smaller universe of available (undealt) cards.
There's another reason for the move to shoes. When there are only one or two decks, there is more frequent shuffling. Depending on how many players, there are often only two or three hands per shuffle. This is time when no "action" is happening at the table. Casinos like to have continuous action so they have more opportunities to leverage their house advantage.

Shoes can be disadvantageous to casinos in relation to counters. The house has to continue to deal from what may be a very unfavorable shoe until the marker is reached. There have been successful teams, where counters wait for a favorable shoe to occur, then signal a confederate to swoop in and now place big bets.

I think there were less nuclear ways of pursuing this discussion. At this point I'm more worried about losing a valued boardie than about scaring off Laura. If I were Laura, I'd be scared off by this discussion anyway. I'd be a lot less scared by a quick comment to BobF that this might not be the time or the way to express his goofball streak.
Thanks, Opus.

Seconded. Her vocal tic WAS off-putting, political correctness or not.
But the overdone response to whatever Bob said was unnecessary.
Moving onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....n.

I can understand why you would think Gibson's name would never be invoked in FJ, but why Eastwood?
All I can think of is the chair speech, but that's been pretty much forgotten by now.
And besides -- so he made an eccentric speech at a political party's national convention -- big whoop.

ETA: according to the j-archive, Eastwood has been the correct response to FJ five times; I see no reason why he can't be again at some point.
This was the rerun game today and decided to check out the game thread. Let's just say that the ban on Eastwood FJs didn't last forever. In fact, they didn't even wait for Trump to be elected.
