Tiombi Prince, an advocation support specialist from East Point, Georgia (whose 1-day cash winnings total $14,200)

OPENING REMARKS
Alex: Thank you, Johnny. Hi, everyone. The first name of our champion, Tiombi, means one who is shy. But Tiombi wasn't shy on yesterday's program, believe me. She was very forceful, played well, turned the game into a runaway. Could not be caught in Final Jeopardy! So, Ben and Lynsey, you are warned. Let's go to work. Here we go. Into the Jeopardy! Round. With one Daily Double awaiting you in these categories. First off...

A LOT OF BUZZ (5/5)
ALLITERATION STATION (3/5)
RECENT CINEMA (5/5)
WHAT'S IN YOUR SUPERMARKET CART? (5/5)
THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO (2/5, including 1 missed Daily Double)

JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Ben found the Daily Double on the 6th clue. Tiombi had $600, Ben had $1,600, and Lynsey was at $800. Ben wagered $800.

THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO $600: "The theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: abolition of" this, an alliterative phrase
(Alex: Ben?)
(Ben: Um, what is the... [sighs] struggle--)

SCORES AT THE FIRST BREAK
Lynsey: $2,200
Ben: $1,600
Tiombi: -$200

CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: Lynsey McMullen is a bartender from Colorado with, I think, maybe show biz aspirations because... dancing is one of your passions.

Lynsey: Yes.

Alex: Different kinds of dancing.

Lynsey: Mm-hmm.

Alex: Belly dancing?

Lynsey: Well, no, I started out in my mom, Marilyn's, dance studio when I was little, um, doing ballet, tap, jazz. I really love ballet, but unfortunately, um, too much junk in the trunk back here to really be good at it. [Laughs]

[Laughter]

Lynsey: So, um, I started modern, contemporary dance. I don't do it too much anymore. I teach a little bit. But I did belly dance for Arnold Schwarzenegger when I was 7 at a Moroccan restaurant in Vail, so...

Alex: Oh.

Lynsey: He probably doesn't remember, but hi. [Laughs]

Alex: Okay, good.

Alex: Ben Parker is a student who had a DVR collection that got lost just after you found out you were gonna be a contestant on our program. What was the collection?

Ben: Yeah, it was over 400 episodes, which I think--

Alex: Of?

Ben: Jeopardy! of course.

Alex: Oh, my gosh.

Ben: Yeah.

Alex: Did you ever get 'em back?

Ben: Nope. Changed service providers and took it right out.

Alex: Okay.

Alex: Tiombi Prince, she is our champion. She writes poems and stories about what?

Tiombi: Um, well, most of my stories seem to be about family. [Laughs]

Alex: That's good.

Tiombi: Or interactions with family members.

Alex: Have you sold any yet?

Tiombi: I haven't sold any, but I have had one published. [Laughs]

Alex: Okay, well, good for you.

TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO $800: Marx & Engels wrote the manifesto for a society of German emigrants that met in this capital
(Tiombi: What is Vienna?)
(Ben: What is Berlin?)
(Lynsey: What is Bern?)
...
(Ben: [*].)
(Alex: They met in [*]. Yes, Ben, you should've said [*] instead of what you did. Pick again, though.)

THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO $1000: "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of" these

ALLITERATION STATION $800: Not flashy but often effective, it's the part of a football coach's strategy that features the running back

ALLITERATION STATION $600: It's a massive upload of information & documents, sometimes to swamp the recipient

MARKS & ANGLES $1000: It's the name of the mark seen here indicating a square root
(Ben: What's a radicand? Radicand?)
(Alex: No.)
(Ben: Square root?)

SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
Lynsey: $5,400
Ben: $2,200
Tiombi: $1,400

Ben goes DD hunting, finds it early, and then wagers half his measly total. Frustrating to see.

Ben gives a wrong answer and is then allowed to change it. Is this consistent?

Good for Tiombi for getting Mel Kuiper Jr.

Thought Ben kept calling Alex a buttwipe during the Y category!

Very surprised that anyone missed that gimme. Probably should've been a triple get even without mentioning Poe (or specifying 'American' lit).

Is Mel Kiper that well-known? I mean, I got it of course, just curious. As a football junkie, it's hard to gauge what's easy for non-fans.

Congrats to Tiombi on another impressive win. I had 46 correct responses including eight triple stumpers: London, ground game, data dump, radical sign, Baretta, Algiers, flyby, and tweed. I also got the missed DD of flax. Instaget FJ.

Yep. That just annoys the hell out of me.

Unless Alex rules, you can usually do so.

I wonder if Tiombi is strategically saving her energy during J. Most games are decided in Double J.

I wonder what episodes Ben had on his DVR. Did he say 400 of them? I've got about 5 times that, but not confined to a DVR.

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

One of my favorite tunes from the 50s. Sort of a doo-wop ballad (by the Capris, though they may not have been the first). Gives you some idea of my age and musical tastes.

I was hoping for a $4600 wager from Linsay so as to win on a singleton or a TS, albiet risking a tie-breaker with Ben. Turns out she would have had a tie-breaker with that wager anyway (on a TS) as Ben made a strategic wager instead of going all in.
Good for him, but I would have made it $2198 just to be safe.

I thought Supermarket and Marks/Angels would be easy runs, but Beech Nut baby food (you mean Gerber isn't the only brand?!) and "radical" tripped me up.

Ant-Man was my only get in the Movies category, and I believe even the only one of the five that I had heard of.

Pasta primavera was undervalued at the top IMO, and Tweed even more so.

How did they get through that parrot category without Monty Python? For shame.

Lach Trash on Algiers, psych, flyby.

No guess on FJ! NHO the correct response.

I'm glad "Manitoba" wasn't a triple stumper. (One of our mods is, too.)
Ran the math category- I'd better, since I teach it- and just noticed that "radical" may have been put there on purpose, in light of the "Communist Manifesto" category. Jeopardy's facebook must be blowing up with "These writers are reds, so I'm never watching again!" comments.
I had $26,000 (37 right, including Final, one neg). Final took a while after ruling out "The Cask of Amontillado." I got the correct response from the Wishbone episode, which is actually how I get a lot of the literature clues.
Hoping for a third lap

Although I wasn't around in the 1950s, that song ("You Belong to Me," by the Duprees, not the Capris) is one of my favorite songs to do at karaoke, so that clue was no trouble for me. Of course, it was just one of many stand-and-stares in today's episode. With all the TS's and missed DD's, this game was ripe for a 4th-podium win. Congrats to Tiombi on at least temporarily stopping the carousel, though.

Instaget FJ for me. My list of precalls written during the commercial break had included "anything by Poe."

ETA: "You Belong to Me" was originally recorded by Sue Thompson in 1952, and has been covered by literally dozens of artists, although the Duprees' doo-wop version is the only one that I'm familiar with. The most surprising artist to have covered the song may be Rick Astley. Anyway, here's the Duprees' version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIEBErVs0fY

Also, I just watched a video of the Rick Astley version, and it's pretty horrible.

Wrote down 'Gold Bug'...and couldn't come up with anything better. (Purloined Letter would be a blind spot of mine).
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Considering of how this week ran, it seems the winnings were all below $20,000 by far. It does seem that Tiombi's strategy, while brilliant in a sense, could be a problem if she gets outbuzzed fast by competitors that can get more right and win more than her. Since her game was not a runaway unlike yesterday, she did seem to rather fly under the radar and win again from third to first. I'm not too sure how well she can last through this week, but if her other competitors competing tomorrow and on Friday could figure it out, this would definitely expose Tiombi and surely she'll pretty much end her reign as champ.
Jeopardy! is like History. It's a mixed bag of categories that try to test your knowledge to see if you know or can recall answers that seem familiar to the viewer.
