Maybe you're right in general (when there is only one Kid's Week or Teen Tournament per test), but I know what I described did happen when there were two Teen Tournaments that "fed" from the same tryouts - the alternate for the first played on the second.nightreign wrote:Nope. The alternates have to try out and go through the process again if they want to get on. They often do, since obviously TPTB liked them the first time, but sometimes it doesn't happen. For example, after 5 years, I still haven't seen my Kids Week alternate on the show (and he would've been eligible for the next Kids Week).GoodStrategy wrote:I think in most cases, assuming that the alternate will still be in the applicable age range at the time, the alternate gets to play in the next Kid's Week/Teen Tournament. That's right - that actually happened in my Teen Tournament, when Kevin Huang was on my tournament. He was the alternate for the tournament last year (yes, the one with the crazy triple-zero and Leonard Cooper's crazy ride to victory) and was allowed to compete officially my year. I also know that the alternate for the Teen Tournament gets a guaranteed ride to the auditions for the next available College Tournament.GoodStrategy wrote:Maybe you're right in general (when there is only one Kid's Week or Teen Tournament per test), but I know what I described did happen when there were two Teen Tournaments that "fed" from the same tryouts - the alternate for the first played on the second.nightreign wrote:Nope. I remember there was a former Teen Tournament alternate at my audition in November. Unless I'm really bad at remembering what he looked like, I don't think he made it, though, from what I can see looking at the contestant photos.

I was surprised by this also; then this morning, I recalled "didn't I see an active-duty military player not in uniform not too long ago?" (An archive search turned up Autumn Swinford, last May 29.)Rafferty Barnes wrote:I'm a little surprised West Point let Carissa Pekny wear a sweatshirt to the College Tournament.
At the end of the "sizzle" video, I did notice that Carissa waved a board with the generic College Championship logo (vice the word mark of her school, like the other 14 players).
No representation for either of the schools I attended, so I think I'll be rooting for Hannah, as she's from what I'd think is the least well known school (and the only player representing a non-NCAA Division I school, for what little that's worth).

I love how you can tell precisely when they taped because of the rain outside the bus in the intro video. Go Hoos.

They had more than one alternate last year?Pendleton71 wrote:Sam and Gus were the alternates for last year's College Championship, so it's no surprise they're on this year.

My school is not in this group. Neither is the school that my daughters attended, so I will be neutral for this tournament. But I will watch every game, naturally.

Mara, since we went to the same law school, which professors were they?naurae29 wrote:One of the Friday contestants went to high school with the son of two of my favorite law school professors, so I'll be cheering for that guy.
Neither of my alma maters is represented in this tourney, including the one where I did my legal studies. So I'm just rooting for good games. And FJ's that I can solve correctly.

They had two because one contestant had travel difficulties, according to Erika on Twitter.
