A miss for me on the FJ! clue as to avoid a blank paper I wrote Borg-Warner. Because of the earlier clue about the Brickyard I was all but sure the Indy 500 trophy was out. Unfortunately, I was stumped as I knew Lombardi, World Series (could not even recall Commissioner's Trophy) or O'Brien were even worse choices. I had no tennis trophy name at hand and I had already ruled out the America's Cup because of the scoreboard puzzle and clue earlier in the game.

Even while using the break to brainstorm trophies and the 30 seconds of think time I never gave a thought to the CFL. Hockey to Canada to Grey Cup seems easy enough after the fact while going 0/3 on the show and leaving it to the wagers and positions to decide the match. Unlike the players I felt one of the other NHL trophies was not going to be right, so I did not consider that area.

The DDs were also 0/3 with Lob City, Duce Staley and translating the Spanish to get all-star game keeping the game scores low.

In 30 games there has only been 1 player who did not get a repeat win, so we'll see if Rick can join the other multi-game winners.

I stuck with hockey and went with Lady Byng, thinking maybe Lord Byng gave it in honor of his wife. While Byng did have the same job as Stanley and Grey, it was indeed Lady Byng who was the hockey fan and conceived the award.

Those were tough DDs in this game, but not as obscure as the scoreboard puzzle.

Dan did hint at an end of season TOC, but nothing specific.

I think this is only the second time I've gotten a sports jeopardy FJ that was a triple stumper.

Ken (the challenger who lost) is a sportswriter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution who covers Georgia Tech. Here is a link to his blog where he discusses his experiences in trying out and appearing on the show. It was written and posted before his episode "aired", so no actual game commentary. But it is a pretty in-depth review, more so than the usual behind the scenes contestant article.

I just found it interesting that there was an FJ last week on the regular show that required you to know that Kings of England called themselves King of France as well, and this one required you to know that Lord Stanley also held the title of Earl Grey. I'm wondering why the writers are obsessed with nobility titles all of a sudden.

Not quite. Both Lord Stanley and Earl Gray were Gov. Generals of Canada.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Wow. I read the FJ! as "Name a random sports trophy". Probably wouldn't have gotten to the Grey Cup in a thousand guesses.

The scoreboard clue was a total mystery, too.

I live in the SF Bay Area, and made it a point to completely avoid seeing or hearing anything about that silly yacht race.

It took me several hours, but the key to solving FJ finally dawned on me.

The Stanley Cup is the most important trophy in hockey. So when they mention Lord Stanley, it is logical to assume they are trying to lead us to the most important trophy in (Canadian) football.

What a well-played game by the three contestants! Congrats to Roy! He's a great contestant and really started honing his buzzer skills through his streak. Ken's SJ news article was also a great inside look of what the whole process to be on the show was like. Can't wait to see how Rick does next week!
