Alex: Joe Indiviglia is from Southern California. And he and his friends are training now for something that I have never heard of. What is it?
Joe: It's called the Kanjam World Championship.
Alex: Right.
Joe: And this is a game you play. It's four people. You have a partner who stands about 50 feet away from you. You're throwing a Frisbee into an open can. It's got a slot in the front as well. If you get the Frisbee in, you win the game. Your friend can also help you hit it in.
Alex: Is there a prize associated with this?
Joe: Well, you're drinking beer during the game, though, so...
Alex: Oh, hello.
[Laughter]
Alex: Okay. Lot of people do this, huh?
Joe: Uh, a fair amount.
Alex: Okay.
[Laughter]
Alex: Kanjam.
Joe: Kanjam.
Alex: Right.
Alex: Ellen Plitt is an emergency room nurse from St. Louis, Missouri.
Ellen: Yes.
Alex: You and I have both traveled to the same place...
Ellen: Yes.
Alex: ...in the Pacific. The Galápagos.
Ellen: Yes.
Alex: What was your vacation like?
Ellen: Um, it was amazing. We, uh, I went on a trip after senior year of high school to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. Spent about 10 days there, 4 on the islands.
Alex: Wow.
Ellen: So we were able to, you know, see a couple of the different islands.
Alex: So one thing you heard quite often, I'm sure, is, "Be careful. Don't step there."
Ellen: Right. Right.
Alex: Right?
[Laughter]
Alex: You have to be careful where you walk.
Ellen: Oh, that's for sure.
Alex: Yeah. Protect the environment.
Alex: Buzzy Cohen is a music executive. He's from Los Angeles. He is our champion. I didn't know you also played piano at Carnegie Hall?
Buzzy: I did, yes. Um, my teacher, when I was growing up, had recitals there, so from about age 9 to 18, every year I would perform at Carnegie Hall.
Alex: Did you get a professional contract, uh, offer out of that?
Buzzy: I never did, and, um... thankful for that.
Alex: I guess you're not--you're not particularly good.
[Laughter]
Buzzy: Good enough for Carnegie Hall.
Alex: Yes. [Laughs]
JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Buzzy found the Daily Double on the 23rd clue. Buzzy had $2,600, Ellen had $3,400, and Joe had nothing in the bank. Buzzy wagered $1,200.

Two-thirds for first place.
Buzzy: Wager $5,401 to cover Ellen, but no more than $5,799 so as not to fall behind Joe's doubled score.

Joe: Unfortunately, your score is less than the difference between the scores of the first and second place players, so unless they both blunder, you're competing for second place and have no hopes of first. Wager as much as you desire, but remember, you'll have better chances of advancing to second place if you have a larger sum left over on a Triple Stumper.

Re: Wednesday, April 27, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I loved the audible gasp after AT told Buzzy that he must not be very good at piano.
And I loved Buzzy's comeback even more.
And I loved Buzzy's comeback even more.
Audacious! Loquacious! Voracious!

Only one person got that FJ right? I'm sure Keith will have fun with Ellen's wager.
After a lot of good games lately, this one just seemed flat to me. Joe had too many misses to have a chance to win on his sole get.
Congrats to Buzzy on becoming a three timer.

What was wrong with Ellen's wager? If she got it, she would have $1 more than Buzzy - seemed like a solid bet to me. Am I missing something?

Re: Wednesday, April 27, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
It put her $1 ahead of Buzzy's pre-FJ total. Which is great if he bets zero. Buzzy made the MSB, which left him with $8,399. She already had more than that and had third locked out, so she should have bet no more than $1,200.gamawire wrote:Bamaman wrote:Only one person got that FJ right? Of course, that does leave her open to the possibility that Buzzy will make a small bet to counter that, but that is unlikely.

She only would have had a dollar more than him if he bet zero, which is very unlikely. Had she wagered less than 1200 she would have won 2 out of 4 times, only requiring Buzzy to get it wrong. But because she wagered more than that, she lowered her chances to 1 out 4, requiring Buzzy to get it wrong and her to get it right.gamawire wrote:Bamaman wrote:Only one person got that FJ right? I'm sure Keith will have fun with Ellen's wager.
What was wrong with Ellen's wager? If she got it, she would have $1 more than Buzzy - seemed like a solid bet to me. Am I missing something?

I imagine she was thinking she would get FJ right and betting on Buzzy making the MSB and missing it, but I get what you're saying.Bamaman wrote:It put her $1 ahead of Buzzy's pre-FJ total.

Congrats to Buzzy on his third win. I had 45 correct responses including these triple stumpers: P. D. James, suppress, parrot fever, conscription, and Russia. I also got the missed Daily Doubles of chemotherapy and Marshall Field, and I got FJ.

And this is typical poor wagering rationale. Sad to see.gamawire wrote:I imagine she was thinking she would get FJ right and betting on Buzzy making the MSB and missing it, but I get what you're saying.

"Hmm, 1919+8 years is...oh." That's how close to instaget it was. Shocked it was a single get. Not so shocked by second place's wager.

I don't want to be greedy, but boy, I wish they'd drawn this FJ to be played on Monday instead of snake oil. Still, congrats to Buzzy for hanging in there and getting win no. 3!

Seriously? Lincoln's boyhood home was called "log cabin syrup"?

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

Tough game for me. Lot more NHOs than usual... At least instaget on FJ.
Maybe in TOC, you will have another chance against Buzzy.pauerpoint wrote:I don't want to be greedy, but boy, I wish they'd drawn this game (or at least FJ) to be played on Monday instead of snake oil. Still, congrats to Buzzy for hanging in there and getting win no. 3!

The clue asked for the product. I noticed that specifically and wondered what they would do if someone rang in with just "what is log cabin?"bpmod wrote:Seriously? Lincoln's boyhood home was called "log cabin syrup"?

Ouch. Poor Joe. He was one clam away from winning. All he had to do was sit tight on that final clue. Ringing in cost him $2000 and the game.

Well, not $2000 and the game. It cost him the game. But, in any event, Ellen gave him back $1000 of it.opusthepenguin wrote:Ouch. Poor Joe. He was one clam away from winning. All he had to do was sit tight on that final clue. Ringing in cost him $2000 and the game.

Corolla is the most popular Toyota? I never would'vguessed that.
You Auto Know for $1,000 was total negbait for seatbelts.
"Well, Artemis is a god, but how do I make that double double letters?" Derp. Give me a break, I just spent 9 hours at work.
Ran Sweet Aisle.
"What the hell place would Moses have gone to?" Derp again. My only miss in the category, too.
Didn't realize that the DD in Architecture would be a coinflip between Sears and Marshall Field's, but I managed to pick the right one.
Who was famous in America in 1927? Beats the hell out of me. I was stumped. I had no idea when Lindbergh did his thing, and the wording somehow had me locked into the political field and refusing to budge.
