Millionaire 2016-17 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

This a Q from the 9/20/16 first run episode today I found interesting:
Spoiler
Image
What happened:
Spoiler
Dave Forbes had no lifelines remaining, but with 50K already in the bank it was a free guess. He tried working out whether the game's designer was American or British. He thought about whether all of the weapons were available in 1947.

He made A: A bomb his final answer. It was C: A brick.

Of the four choices I thought the bomb was the most likely to have been an original weapon. I knew the game was British in origin, so I thought the shillelagh was likely in as well. All of my lifelines would have been intact and my play would have been the 50:50.

Brick was my instinct for the one that did not belong going off a gut feeling. It's these kind of fun questions at the perfect valuing that make watching the show enjoyable.
This season my market has so far been airing the 2nd new episodes each day, so I'm guessing those will repeat in the first slot after 3 or 4 weeks.

This was a tough question - I tried Googling it and couldn't locate any information. I did learn that the game was devised during the Blitz.

This has the drawings and other information relevant to the question: http://cluecluedo.wikia.com/wiki/Murder! From there click murder as the link does not seem to directly work for some reason.

Boardie and boardie +1 on tomorrow's show.

I went down a Google rabbit hole a couple months ago when they announced they were updating Mrs. White's backstory, and I remembered hypodermic needle was correct. My final guess would have been right, but I'm not sure I'd have had the guts to pull the trigger.

It was a free guess question. I hope you wouldn't have walked...

I would have chosen hypodermic needle.

At first I was thinking about brick because that was one of two choices where you beat someone with it. Then I remembered Clue has a candlestick and a lead pipe.

I went with needle because you don't kill someone with that, but with the poison you'd put inside it (unless of course you get in just the right spot).

That logic would also disqualify the revolver, tho.

My logic, though, was worse: "The hypodermic needle isn't THAT old!" (mid 1800s...though initial attempts were made in the mid 1600s.)
*insert Price is Right losing horn sound*

Except you don't put something in a revolver to heal someone.

I (independently) came up with the same answer as the contestant. My logic was that all of the other weapons (1) require the direct presence and actions of the killer, (2) are specific to killing a single person, and (3) don't really leave much in the way of collateral damage behind; the bomb stood out as being both remote and indiscriminate (basically, the one-of-these-things-is-not-like-the-others reasoning).

Swing and a miss ....

Didn't even consider that angle. I mean, it's a game about murder; I just assumed there was poison in the needle from square one. Then again, even an empty hypodermic could be fatal (i.e., embolism).

That's why I said about the right spot.

Plus if you're going to use poison, why not just make poison the weapon instead of the needle.

I knew bomb was in the game, but didn't know about the other three.

From the 9/21 first episode was another reason I enjoy the show for this kind of moment:
Spoiler
$5,000 ( so she only got the appearance prize of $1,000)
Image
She left with all of her lifelines intact.
The next contestant played this fun question to work out for
Spoiler
$20,000

Including the ones in its title, which song’s lyrics contained fewer than 20 unique words?
A: “You Are So Beautiful”
B: “Let It Be”
C: “Tubthumping”
D: “My Heart Will Go On”
What happened:
Spoiler
He locked in C., but it was A. the song by Joe Cocker. I got rid of the Beatles song and Celine's Titanic theme knowing enough of the words to get past 20. A & C had me having more trouble to recall what was not repetitious and I would have used at least one lifeline on it.

Tanay Kothari left with $5,000.

Poison by itself would go on food or in a drink, not directly injected.

I had reasoning along these lines – I also figured the odds of leaving Mr. Boddy intact with are pretty low with a close-proximity bomb.

Double-run markets apparently get not only triviawayne, but me as well. I'm told I'm in the second show.

Josh Woo was on the 9/22 second show. For single run markets I would expect this to air in possibly three to four weeks.

However, before Josh could play the previous contestant had to finish up.

Thanks a bunch, MarkBarrett. Really wanted to see Wayne (and as it turned out, another board member, Josh) on the show, but Millionaire wasn't playing at its usual time slot somewhere between 1-2 am for some reason last night.

Wow, smart way to slant the audience, Wayne. I've never considered that strategy before, but it's very clever. I also got the centennial clue by process of elimination.

Also, I would have gone with "ritual bath" for the $30k question also, and I have a number of Indian friends that actually did the mehndi ceremony!

Would have went with "index finger" on Josh's last question, but it's a nasty one, and "eye" also makes excellent logical sense. (The other two did not) I think he could have saved lifelines on "-cillin" and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, but it's unclear whether that would have been enough on that question. Especially since the +1 he did use is more valuable, anyhow.

That was such a great strategic play by Wayne to congregate the I-have-no-idea-and-am-just-guessing vote onto a single answer (which he knew wasn't the correct one). Well played indeed, Wayne!

Also, way to pick a cream-of-the-crop Plus One and then make good use of him to wrangle your way to the correct response. Congrats on your appearance!
