CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Welcome back. Sometimes in our lives, reconnecting with old loves can be a game-changer. Jennifer Berry, that happened to you, didn't it?
Jennifer: It did. It did. I met George when we were in seventh grade, so eleven, twelve years old, and he was my first love. We lost touch along the way after high school, and about four years ago, I looked him up online, found him. Neither one of us had ever been married, got back together. We've hardly been apart a day since then.
Alex: Good for you. That's a lovely story.
Jennifer: Thank you.
Alex: Dan Chafetz, data specialist from Vermont, who, says here, the first NFL football game you attended was a historic one. How?
Dan: That's right, Alex. I grew up in western New York, near Buffalo, and so I'm a big Buffalo Bills fan. So the Bills had some great teams back in the '90s--
Alex: Yeah, but they never got to that last win.
Dan: Well, I'm not talking about that game.
Alex: Okay.
Dan: I'm talking about the comeback game against the Oilers. It was a playoff game and they were down 32 points during the third quarter. They ended up coming back, winning the game in overtime. Till this day it remains the greatest comeback in the history of the NFL, and--
Alex: And you were there.
Dan: I was there, there.
Alex: You were there. Okay. Good for you.
Alex: Justin Bender is our champion. He's a technical engineer who deals with language and went on a singing tour of Europe with a chorale, a group?
Justin: Yeah, it was a group of about 30 of us for about 2 1/2 weeks in central Europe, and--
Alex: What kind of singing were you guys doing?
Justin: Oh, largely chamber choir sort of things, a capella things. It was an amazing experience.
Alex: Okay. I'm sure it was. You're still in command of the board, by the way.
JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Justin found the Daily Double on the 22nd clue. Justin had $4,400, Dan had $3,800, and Jennifer was at $1,600. Justin made it a True Daily Double, wagering $4,400.
CORNERSTONES $1000: In 1770 statesman & merchant John Brown laid the cornerstone for this state's oldest university
(Justin: What is Massachusetts?)
(Alex: No, Brown University is [*].)
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
WINNING! $1000: (I'm NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson.) In 2004 & 2012 I won the Darlington 500 in this Southern state
(Jennifer: What is North Carolina?)
(Justin: What is Virginia?)
SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND

The H in HTTP is Hyper. It's HyperText Transfer Protocol.
Took a sec to recall it, but I got to 1984 quickly enough.

Re: Tuesday, November 29, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
It seemed they were looking for hypertext so I have no idea why they didn't ask for the HT (the way it was written, here at home I just said 'hyper' to play it safe). If they'd neg Dan for giving them too much info, I'd still be cursing at the screen.
Big sigh of relief when Justin sussed out "turncoat" I want more people to bet big on DDs, so 3 flameouts in one episode wouldn't help encourage others
Instaget FJ, from the year alone. I don't buy many ebooks, and I didn't know Amazon could do that (makes sense). I was hoping Justin got it wrong, to make it clear that Jennifer should've bet it all. Oh well. Wouldn't want to teach the folks at home proper wagering or anything.

Yeah, I actually gave a quiz yesterday with a near identical question, but the correct answer was "Hyper"econgator wrote:The H in HTTP is Hyper. It's HyperText Transfer Protocol.
I think I would have gotten Final if they had put something like "Somewhat fittingly," or something at the beginning of the clue. Instead, my mind jumped to China, since they have some history of making US company's ban things in their country. I wrote "The Little Red Book" which is probably a very bad guess.

Not an instaget for me, but got FJ with a wild guess at a novel published in the late 40's.
Re: Tuesday, November 29, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
NHO "even at this late date". That was a contrived clue.
Joseph Smith is another name that is way too generic to Hawley-Smoot into my head.
$1,000 was my only get in Octopi, since it was the only one that directly required knowledge of the animal.
Paul Revere was a silversmith?
BFG and Labyrinth were my gets in Kids' Books. I can never keep Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer straight.
Announcer I tend to think of as being a TV thing, not a radio thing. Didn't get that or arbitrator.
Trivet (NHOI) was my only miss in Shining T.
I was hoping for "Let's go to Hell for $400" but it never happened.
Computer for $800 seemed negbait for keyboard.
Dam Nation was completetly lacking in TOM.
Briefly considered 1984 but it didn't seem right. Fahrenheit 451 didn't seem right either. Nothing seemed right.

Lost my own coin flip between 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. Both fit the question well but F451 was four years off. Oh well

LMAO same coin flip went with Orwellian... better lucky than good. NHO the 'censoring' by 'Big Brother Amazon.' Must have slept through it now 7 years back probly working nights sleeping days.Fishercat wrote:Lost my own coin flip between 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. Both fit the question well but F451 was four years off. Oh well
Was certain "Brave New World was from 1930s although it fleeted through there, not a contender. F451 'seemed 1950s,' my impression from the film version, and a retrowiki confirms that >1953.
41R LT: Tartarus, Pandemonium ("Arise, Awake, or be forever fallen!"), Battle of Midway > JOhn Ford. Gave 'Discovery Channel' for "Disney" go figure!

Also thought the Rodin 4 word answer was given as "gates of hell"... Maybe missed "the".econgator wrote:The H in HTTP is Hyper. It's HyperText Transfer Protocol.

Welcome! Ok, everyone, remember to make our guest feel welcome! Some of them will wish to have a word with you about your FJ wager, Dan. It... er... could have used a little work. There were a few nightmare scenarios where it would have cost you a game you should have won. Fortunately, none of those occurred. You lost cleanly and you made Justin work for his win. That's not as satisfying as a win, of course. But you played well and looked like a contender. Thanks for stopping by. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on this whirlwind experience.gnuppet wrote:Hi, there. Middle podium today here. Will post more after.
EDIT: My critique of Dan's wager is all wrong. Please read ahead for my retraction before you yell at me.

No it was there, bit hasty but I caught it. If you're not familiar, Rodin's "The Thinker" is a part of this gate, carved into the lintel above the doors, later carved a stand-alone!doihavetoreally wrote:Also thought the Rodin 4 word answer was given as "gates of hell"... The gates were cast twice and stand in the Rodin Museums of Paris and Philly. Worth a visit!

Hypertext might have been TMI, but that's not a problem as long as the extra info is correct.xxaaaxx wrote:It seemed they were looking for hypertext so I have no idea why they didn't ask for the HT (the way it was written, here at home I just said 'hyper' to play it safe). If they'd neg Dan for giving them too much info, I'd still be cursing at the screen.

32/57 right.
Winning (3), Kids (4), Rhyme (1), Octopi (3), Cornerstone (5), "A" Training (3)
Conservative (3), Oscar (1), Computing (1), "T to T" (4), Hell (1), Damnation (3)
Lach Trash: South Carolina, John Ford; DD: Rhode Island
Not instant, but a quick FJ; also helped me to know the year of its release.

Justin TDD's are refreshing and he is looking set for a TOC spot -- jinxed now?
