My first thought for the book clue was 1984, but I nearly talked myself out of it because I thought it was published in 1948, not 1949 (I "remembered" that it was the switching of the digits 4 and 8 that gave Orwell the title...) But I didn't have anything else so I stuck with 1984, thank goodness.

France on Monday. Got Tuesday more from Amazon than from 1949. I have read 1984.

No clue on Log Cabin Republicans. I think I missed anchor because I was multitasking and not paying full attention. I don't know if I would have been confident enough to buzz in for Galatea, but it was my quick and sole response.
