Is Sports Jeopardy done?

Post by jlgarfield »

I've noticed a lot of concern today when I found no new Sports Jeopardy! ep on Crackle today. Is the show dunzo? I really hope not..... if anybody has any more info, I'd like to hear it.

I haven't enjoyed it as much as I thought I would. Being on just once a week makes it hard to get in a rhythm like you do with the regular show. Plus it is online and I have encountered issues with Crackle that make it a huge PITA to watch and more trouble than it is worth.

The very low budget of $8,000 a week in prize money was a sign they weren't putting much into it.

They are showing it on NCBSports Network right now...

Three episodes were listed on the online TV guide, but they didn't show the first due to hockey going late, well, reeally postgame talk going late.

The 2nd one listed is on right now... and it's a repeat from Season 1. And, Mr. Patrick, the # of dimples on a golf ball varies by brand. There was never a stipulation in the Rules Of Golf at any time, and maybe there was a time when the number he said, 336, was typical... but I've seen major-brand golf balls advertised with all manner of dimple numbers (and even shapes).

Dan even thanked the Schwab for having "researched" this... Anyway, hopefully the new episode is the next one at 11pm EST.

Yes, the three episodes that aired were Season 1 games, episodes 32-34.

Yes, there was a time where 336 was typical. I remember when Titleist came out with a ball that had 392 dimples that was bid news. Back then most dimples were round and uniform, but Prostaff manufactured balls with icosahedron dimples that were fairly popular.

Most of the time the governing bodies (USGA and R&A) don't care about dimples, but there have been instances where a dimple design "self correct" too much to the point where they have not been approved for official play.

The website states :

"Please note: Sports Jeopardy! is currently on hiatus, and tape dates for the latter part of 2016 are not yet available. We encourage you to check back in January for more information."

Episode 12 would have been the last one taped in the July session, so they have gone quite a while with no production. And they have created no new episodes since they began airing on NBCSN.

Sad to see it go if this is the case. Always assumed they'd have Vinny back at some point...and, I mean, someone would have to play him ;)

According to a comment Earl left on TJF yesterday, they had at least planned for the possibility of a November taping session. It appears as though that taping session did not take place.

They did have an online test this fall. I believe it was in late September. I took it and felt good about the results. Hope the show continues on!

I never was under the impression that Crackle was going to air it after NBCSN bought it, so it's absence on Crackle shouldn't mean anything. It'd be like saying Monday Night Football hasn't been on the air anymore because it's not on ABC.). It looks like NBCSN is dropping the ball.

Here's the original press release -- I don't think they would have put "New Episodes of Sports Quiz Show Debut on Crackle Every Wednesday Night" in the headline, or mentioned Crackle quite so many times in the body, if the intention was that it would be leaving Crackle to become exclusive to NBCSN.

Have new episodes ever aired on NBCSN? I thought they just showed ones from past seasons.

There was a small update on the Sports Jeopardy! site:

Please note: Sports Jeopardy! is currently on hiatus, and tape dates for 2017
are not yet available.
We encourage you to check back in April for more information.

Previously it had January.

NBCSN ended last Wednesday's slate of games with F1 from S1. Tomorrow I would expect F2 to air and after that I don't know if it will go back to the beginning of S1 or begin S2 games although some aired in August after Olympics coverage was over.

"Hiatus" often translates to "production company wondering if continuing the show worth it/having a hard time getting a new deal with a network". So yes, this doesn't bode well for the show's future.

Keep in mind as well that with talks growing about Sony possibly selling its TV and movie divisions, as well as analysts wondering about Crackle's future with the impending loss of all things Jerry Seinfeld to Netflix, perhaps Sony is taking a hard look at Crackle's future and, at the very least, contemplating "trimming the fat" when it comes to new programming.

Interestingly, they had a clue on Tuesday's show read by Mario Andretti, although the clue had nothing to do with auto racing. I wonder if he had taped a category for SJ! and they had him read the clue for the regular show while they were there. I don't recall him hosting a category for SJ!, but of course I may have forgotten it.
