It's possible there may be two of either College or Teachers' champs depending on when in (presumably) 2013(likely February or May) they do the next TofC.

The problem is, the fact that this thread gets bumped immediately essentially makes the entire forum a spoiler. Perhaps this thread could be stickied so as to remedy this problem.

That's an option, albeit the "Boardies on the Show - Season 28" should also be stickied.

But what would make a boar dying so important?

Hey, Jeopardy! people, it has been about four months since the season started, and we have only four people with three or more wins. Doesn't that seem like an unusually low number? :?:

You don't count from the beginning of the season, you count from the end of the last ToC. There have only been 43 games since then.

Let's throw in Joon and Justin then to make it six.

Last season (for comparison purposes) in the middle of January it was:

8: Tom Nissley
6: Roger Craig
5: Kara Spak
4: Anthony Fox
3: Don Meals, Sara Wilkinson, Matt Detura, Jesse Cuevas, some guy named Vito Cortese, Josh Powell, Marissa Goldsmith, Dan Jensen
College: Erin McLean

Thanks to the J! Archive and the JEOPARCHIVE! I was able to cobble together a list of champions from the past 2,774 regular-play games (which made up roughly 79.6% of all games). During that time there have been 293 champs with at least three wins, for an average of about one every 9.47 shows, which gives us an expected value of ~4.65 3+-timers in the 44 games so far in this qualifying period. I think the reason we are a bit below that is the recent streak of 15 games won by just two different players.

Here's a list of the number of games won by 3+-timers in the first 44 games of the qualifying periods following these ToCs:

1996 - 3, 3, 3, 4, 5
1998 - 3, 5, 5, 3, 5, 3
1999 - 3, 3, 5, 3, 5
2000 - 3, 3, 4, 3, 3, 5, 3
2001 - 3, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3
2003 - 3, 3, 4, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3
2004 - 3, 5, 3 (post-KJ)
2006 - 3, 5, 3
2007 - 5, 5, 9
2009 - 3, 3, 5, 7
2010 - 4, 3, 3, 5, 3, 3, 4, 3
2011 - 3, 9, 6, 4

(It certainly bodes well for Dan McShane that 6 of those 7 4-timers went on to participate in the next ToC.)

from a probabilistic viewpoint, i guess you could say that. from a chronological one, it is certainly not true. there have been three 3-timers in the last month, which is actually quite a bit ahead of the expected average. the drought occurred between my run and jason's (or between the start of the ToC cycle and jason, if you want to count that way), a lengthy stretch in which francis was the only 3-timer.

Thank God we're returning to regular games Monday! :!:

Renewing the subject I raised in January, doesn't it seem like we've had relatively few 3+ game winners since the last ToC? :?: I calculate that we have fifty regular Jeopardy! games left till the end of the 2011-12 season.
