What a great TD, opus! Thanks for the all the hard work. I had fun and learned all sorts of cool things, like one cannot work as a General of the Army after one is deceased, dead or pushing up daisies (and not merely pining for the fjords).

Gratz to the winners!

You're like any super-champion. You needed three things for this to work out the way it did:

1. A killer knowledge base
2. Good instincts
3. Some luck

Kudos for bringing numbers 1 and 2 to the table. That made it fun to watch when number 3 showed up.

In response to mitchparov's question, here are some interesting statistics:

The following 10 players GROUNDHOGGED

Rackme32 - 2 Madisons (one of which was wrong), no John Adams
Peggles - 2 Jacksons, no Washington
Woof - 2 Jacksons, no TRICKY DICK
barandall800 - 2 Harrisons, no TRICKY DICK
MarkBarrett - 2 Van Burens, 2 Tylers; no TRICKY DICK or SLICK WILLIE
econgator - 2 Van Burens, no Madison
Paucle - 3 Van Burens; no Washington or Jackson
debramc - 3 Harrisons, 2 John Adams; no Monroe, Quincy Adams, or Van Buren
ayeembored - 5 Jacksons, 2 Harrisons, 2 George Washingtons, 1 set of misread instructions; no John Adams, Madison, Monroe, Quincy Adams, Van Buren, or Tyler

Of those, the following players GROUNDHOGGED and still finished in the top 10:

MarkBarret - 10th
Woof - 9th
econgator - 7th

The following players did not trust TRICKY DICK

MarkBarrett
debramc
immaf
Woof
barandall800

The following players did not trust SLICK WILLIE

MarkBarrett
debramc

The following players never managed a singleton

ayeembored
amorris525

Here's a list of players by number of wrong answers given

debramc - too many GROUNDHOGS

Only two players gave a wrong answer and finished in the top 10:

Woof - 9th
DadofTwins - 4th

Of those, only one player gave a wrong answer AND a GROUNDHOG and finished in the top 10:

Woof - 9th

Thanks for playing, all. I had a good time. It was gratifying to read your comments. Same time next year?

Unless we get stuck in a Groundhog Day loop, I won't do exactly the same TD. But I hope to do a Presidential Groundhog Day TD for the next three years. After that, I'm out of presidents that come in convenient sets of 10.

I am so glad I didn't have to score this what with all the twists and turns!

I do, however, wish I had participated. :(

xxaaaxx wrote:Hmm, I don't seem to be gaining any traction  This is starting to remind me of that Star Trek TD, where I put together probably my best overall performance, and still got dusted by someone who dominated wire-to-wire.
I remember a couple years ago when, after a few months of middling success at TD, there was finally a game in which I was doing really quite well. I kept trailing this one fellow, though, who kept predicting that he would eventually sheep horribly and tumble out of the lead... but he never did. If memory serves, I think this counts as turnabout. ;)
HAH! Yeah, I remember that TD. To this day I'm still not sure how I avoided so many sheep. But it was nothing like this:

I think this is only the second time I've finished in the top three of a TD. I'm looking forward to the next editions and hope we don't have to wait a year for the next round.

I must admit I didn't fully understand the last question and how the bonus worked, otherwise I might have used Abe elsewhere.

In honor of my finish, I am incorporating FDR as my avatar for the next month and challenge everyone else (even Woof) to do the same.

Someone commented on Wilson being ranked so high. A man gets us into a war we didn't need to get involved in and his favorite movie was one that praised the KKK. So naturally he becomes the idol of liberals.

This was the 'filthiest' looking John Quincy Adams pic I could find. Look at his shifty eyes...I would say he looks like he was formulating his devious plot to come up with the Monroe Doctrine and then confuse people by calling it, y'know, the Monroe Doctrine, but this picture's dated 1843, so that probably wouldn't be accurate. :D

(Happy side note: When typing in "filthy John Quincy Adams" in Google, the first result that came up was this very thread, where I uttered my epithet. :))

I tried to find a picture of Teddy sitting in that bar in San Antonio to remind me of the Final Jeopardy that I recently missed, but I came up empty, so this will have to do.

while I vastly prefer President GHW Bush over his son, that's akin to preferring dying while making love to dying via seppuku. Either way, you're dead.

For the record, I DO know that Madison preceded Monroe. However, I remain unclear on which is the short one, which one lived at Montpelier, which one wrote the Federalist Papers, which one has a state capital named after him, which one has an African capital named after him...
You should've switched your avatar to Monroe, just to see if anyone noticed. :)

Who is that in your avatar? Franklin Pierce?

Can you imagine someone joining a game thread and wondering why everyone has pictures of presidents who have been dead for a long time?

I was actually reading this thread and it stil took me a few seconds to get it.
