Ha ha, very well played on the Springfield/Springsteen question, Bamaman!

My thinking on that one was pretty much this: "Hmm. Hmmmmm. Well, Rick Springfield sang in the 1980s, and was on General Hospital -- I guess that's the TOM -- and his name kinda sorta could be confused for Bruce Springsteen, but in all the other responses the names are nearly identical. Gee, not sure about this one. Better clam."

I have anecdotal evidence of a very serious multi-personnel name confusion between the two names from my box office work at Saratoga in 1984. (Or was it 1985?)

It's your BBQ, but you said specifically that the answers had to be exact, so I don't love that people who didn't know the slash got credit. Minor quibble.

Also, you posted in another thread, so is there more reveal coming?

Shoot, I definitely shouldn't have procrastinated...I hate to miss a game like this! (It didn't help that I thought the extended deadline was a little later. Dang time zones...) Sorry, Bamaman...it's not very great form for the host of the last game to miss out on playing in the next one.

Had absolutely nothing come to me for Springfield/Springsteen. I knew my Daily/ Daley was wrong about ten seconds after hitting 'enter'. PALEY not DALEY you dope! So it goes.

I would've been slightly better off piggybacking the dog category. My reaction to that Paley/Daily question was "oh s*** (I accidentally left that in my answer, sorry about that  ), so much for sweeping that category", never heard of either guy.

I totally brain farted, I guess. I didn't see my name listed as correct, then saw my wrong answer: Bill Daily and Bill Daley. "No, I'm sure I had William Paley. I even recited the Q and A to my brother after, and that's one he knew." But checked my outgoing and I did indeed replace Paley's P with a D. (Although I had his first name as William, not Bill as recorded here) Oops. Guess I shouldn't have rushed my entry, and taken at least 60 Minutes on it! ;)

I'm definitely thinking about starting to get ready to put that on my to-do list.

We should start a procrastinators club. Anyone interested, send me a PM! (Which I guess would sort of immediately disqualify you.)

Dogs were my second-worst category. It all goes uphill from there, as far as I'm concerned.

Dog Show Losers

None of these breeds have won the Best in Show Award at the Westminster Dog Show. Perhaps this will motivate them to get off their duff and win next year.

If my goal was to come up with questions challenging to dog experts, I failed miserably. Three specialists ran the category, as did four others.

The big questions is, why didn't Woof use this as his specialty?

1. This breed was launched in the U.S. in 1933 with the gift of dogs from the Dalai Lama to an American traveler.

Lhasa apso

Correct (26): Magna, plasticene, Paucle, code happy, billy pilgrim, Woof, Peggles (4), Gama wire, dhkendall, MarkBarrett, econgator, RackMe32, LaFlaneur, boson, gloriaclemente (2), mam418 (1), andreaborn, dmleach (5), debramc, Turd Ferguson, xxaaaxx, omgwheelhouse, Lefty, bomtr, cbec (2), jeff6286

Incorrect (2): immaf (Nepalese), Vanya (Shar pei)

Clam: mitchparov, spell4yr, amorris525

2. This breed, featured in a popular movie, has a genetic predisposition to deafness.

Dalmatian

i thought the bit about dalmatians being deaf was better known. A few seemed to focus too much on the movie tOM and went for the wrong breed.

Correct (16): Paucle, code happy, billy pilgrim, Vanya, Peggles (1), dhkendall, MarkBarrett, RackMe32, boson, gloriaclemente (5), mam418 (2), amorris525, debramc, xxaaaxx, omgwheelhouse, jeff6286

Incorrect (7): Magna (Chihuahua), plasticene (Chihuahua)., Gama wire (Saint Bernard), Laflaneur (Saint Bernard), dmleach (Saint Bernard, 1), Lefty (Collie), cbec (Saint Bernard, 1)

Clam (8): Woof, mitchparov. Immaf, econgator, spell4yr, andreaborn, Turd Ferguson, bomtr

3. The royal breed of Japan is commonly used in that country as a guard dog.

most of those who got this wrong seemed to be on the right track, they just got the name wrong.

Akita

Correct (19): Magna, plasticene, Paucle, code happy, billy pilgrim, mitchparov, Vanya, Peggles (3), Mark Barrett, RackMe 32, boson, gloriaclemente (4), mam418 (3), andreaborn, debramc, xxaaaxx, omgwheelhouse, bomtr, cbec (3)

Incorrect (5): immaf (Nikita), gamawire (Akido), LaFlaneur (Akhito), dmleach (Shar pei, 2), Lefty (Akito)

Clam (7): Woof, dhkendall, econgator, spell4yr, amorris525, Turd Ferguson, jeff6286

4. Developed from the St. John's Water dog in Newfoundland, it is the most popular breed in both the U.S. and Canada. Go fetch!!

Just about everyone got this one right, a few picked the wrong retriever.

Labrador retriever

Correct (27): Magna, plasticene, Paucle, code happy, billy pilgrim, Woof, mitchparov, immaf, Vanya, Peggles (3), MarkBarrett, econgator, spell4yr, Laflaneur, boson, gloriaclemente (1), mam418 (5), amorris525, andreaborn, debramc, Turd Ferguson, xxaaaxx, omgwheelhouse, Lefty, bomtr, cbec (5), jeff6286

Incorrect (3): gamawire (Golden retriever), dhkedall (golden retriever), dmleach (Golden retriever, 4)

Clam (1): RackMe32

5. While more dogs of it's group have won the Best in Show prize than any other, none have come from this breed used in fox hunting and named for and developed by an English minister.

Jack Russell terrier or Parson Russell terrier

Not sure who Reverend Beagle was.

Correct (15): plasticene, Paucle, Woof, Peggles (2), Gama wire, LaFlaneur, gloriaclemente (3), mam418 (4), dmleach (3), debramc, xxaaaxx, omgwheelhouse, Lefty, bomtr, cbec (4)

Incorrect (4): Magna (John Wesley terrier), billy pilgrim (beagle), Vanya (beagle), boson (beagle)

Clam (12): code happy, mitchparov, immaf, dhkendall, MarkBarrett, econgator, spell4yr, RackMe32, amorris525, andreaborn, Turd Ferguson, jeff6286

That John Wesley Terrier one was kind of a lark. I figured this category deserved a WAG. ;)
