Post by Vanya »

Who says there isn't any great music produced today? Test your knowledge of these 21 recordings* released in the 21st Century**.

3 points for the name of the song.
2 points for the artist.
1 point for the year of release.

PM me with answers. Reveal next week sometime.

* Song may have been written earlier.

** 21st Century began January 1, 2000.

My entries are in and I can count my points on two (well perhaps three) hands. Go ahead and play even if one hand is all you need for your score.

I was curious about #13 and #20 since the songs sounded pretty good. My research led me to YouTube and just for the two songs the view count total was over 253,000,000.

I can identify quite a few more of the artists than the actual songs.

Any penalties for guessing? I'm a little shaky on year of release for the ones I know.

I think I recognized 5, and I can't actually name the artist/title for 3 of them. Hmm...

I figure that I have an expected value of 2 if I just guess the same year for every song, and I do recognize one of the songs, though I have no idea who the artist is. So I'm pulling for a 5 ±σ

Haven't been here in a while... real life gets in the way. Anyway, hello again, y'all!

Things I learned from taking this quiz:

1) it's easier to remember what year things happened when you were in school than it is when you're out of school. (I already knew that, but it was pretty interesting how big a difference I noticed on this quiz).

2) the past 12+ years have had some incredible music, but they have had some truly horrendous music. I was only embarrassed by one or two of my gets--most of the really awful stuff, I didn't know.

Just like the 12 before that and the 12 before that...

I'll give you a hint, Mark. #13 has been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the last two months. :)

Sometimes, it helps to have teenagers.

I knew 13 of them cold (meaning artist and title). I suspect that if I didn't get the year exactly right on those, I wasn't off by more than a year.

The same two I knew? Actually, I knew one more, but that's it!
