Bad night for TPH - he misses the FJ about an artist he knows well, misses Taylor Swift here, AND he doesn't get Vanya's David Allan Coe reference.

I'm surprised you didn't recognize her voice/style. Of course all of her songs sound the same to me (don't get me wrong, I like that song).

I didn't get it either. Sheer coincidence.

That doesn't sound remotely like her other songs to me. The production is far heavier — more bass, more drums — and her voice sounds way, way, way different. So much reverb and processing on the vocals that even hearing the full song, it barely sounds like her.
Also, Vanya — ShipItUp should get full credit for "T-swizzle" , which is a nickname for Taylor.
I did get the David Allan Coe reference though.

I did not know that (did Snoop Dog give her that nickname?). Final score adjusted.

Nope. It comes from a skit she did with T-Pain at the CMT Music Awards.

I was puzzled by this:

Until I saw this:

I guess this is a version of RTFQ. Much of this was an unrecognizable blur to me, but I'm pretty sure I didn't actually think #18 was Usher.
Thanks for a fun game, Vanya. I appreciate the pity point for "not Peter Schilling"! It's obvious which century's music I know more about (especially getting 6 points on the Y2K song)

I was right -- I've never heard of a single one of these songs.

I was wrong -- I needed four hands for my score. A special thanks to Hammer, Steven, and Randy for playing.
Being a faithful viewer of AGT paid off in being able to recognize Jackie Evancho's voice. That and Kanye were the educated guesses I hit.

That was a mistake on my part. I gave you credit for the Usher answer, but didn't go back and fix the questions.

I feel particularly aggrieved that Vanya omitted one of the few 21st C hits that I would recognize, LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" which my 7 y.o. son makes endless variations on.

First of all, thanks to Vanya for the game, and congrats to TimeLady on the win!
Since I sat down and listened to the Youtube clip I decided to enter the contest. There were only 4 songs where I was absolutely sure of the artist, and I decided only to guess at those 4 songs. If it wasn't for the fact that the cd player in my car stopped working back in January and I am stuck having to listen to the radio now, that number only would have been two.
The ones that I knew:
"Beautiful Day" by U2 was an instant get, though I couldn't remember the exact year and was off by one.
Green Day used to be my favorite band, so I knew "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." I also remember American Idiot coming out during my freshman year of college quite well, and seeing them in concert on their American Idiot tour, so I knew all three parts there. I only like Green Day's first 3 albums (1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, Kerplunk, Dookie) now, but there will always be sentimental value to me with the band.
I had never even heard a Lady Gaga song up until a few months ago, and that is the one blessing that has come with having to listen to the radio in the car now. "Born This Way" is an awful song, but "Alejandro," "Poker Face," and "Bad Romance" are all amazing. At some point I will sit down and listen to the rest of her stuff.
I hate Linkin Park but I heard that new song of theirs for the first time a week or two ago. I didn't know the name of the song but the band and the year were instant gets.
Thanks again to Vanya for a fun quiz! My hat goes off to all who entered!

I didn't get to hear a lot of pop until my sister started driving me places and listening to the pop station merely because her boyfriend liked it. I think I heard that God-awful "Tonight Tonight" song by Hot Chelle Rae six times in one hour once. And then 45 other party anthems that sounded all the same to me: "we're gonna have fun and dance and party tonight and blah blah blah".
And oddly, I did not hear "Rolling in the Deep" once on the radio, even though it was at #1 for almost all of 2011.
