Sure it's not named after Ryne Sandburg?
(Poll the public between those two to find who's more associated with Chicago, and my money is NOT going to be put on the poet :D )

There's water east of the Baja Peninsula?

Wait, there's a Baja Peninsula?! /ducks

Madagascar, while not 100% on, it felt right. 1960s independence got me to Africa, since all those nations got independence around then, and the French still have an island of the Comoros so they at least had a presence in the area so hopefully that included Madagascar. And it did!
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

And more importantly, it's not a big island consisting of one independent country.
And MORE importantly, it was independent for well over 150 years by that point (I think Haiti's status as the second independent country in the Americas was recently mentioned on J!)

Ryne's name is spelled Sandberg.

I prefer Ryan Dempster, since he has a major street in the northern suburbs named after him.

While we're endorsing adding Local Hero and Brazil to our Netflix queues--and I second both motions--I've got to add a shout-out for The Unbearable Lightness of Being, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Juliette Binoche and Lena Olin, each of them often wearing nothing or next to it (a bowler hat). Rumor has it Ms. Olin shot the film about six weeks after giving birth. Stare as closely as you like, you won't be able to tell.

Doug Walker, aka The Nostalgia Critic, has also said that Brazil is his favorite movie.

Brazil is Terry Gilliam's remake of 1984. He has an interesting world view.

Huh? Remake? Of what, now?

So, okay, while we're at it, an endorsement from me for Local Hero, Bill Forsyth's masterwork. It's a sweet film but it's also profoundly affecting (few filmic moments evoke the feeling of loss the final shot of this film does), and the soundtrack is magnificent. And another for Gilliam's masterwork, which was not without its share of the bad luck that haunts Gilliam's work. This is one of those films that was initially absolutely butchered by the studio schmucks. The first time I saw it, I was mesmerized but could make no sense whatsoever of it; the second time, it had been restored to the director's vision, and it was perfectly comprehensible.

If we're introducing new subjects, I'll nominate Christopher Nolan's Memento, another film that's completely engrossing and completely original.

Neither was I. What a voice. I was, however, a bit taken aback to see that the opera guy couldn't make the connection between "Knights of the Rose" and "Der Rosenkavalier."
It was actually "Knight of the Rose," which is a direct translation of "Rosenkavalier." For that reason it was potentially a bad clue, although it turned out not to matter.

Alex: "It's love at first sight for Sophie & Octavian in this 'Knight Of The Rose' opera"
Contestant: "What is the Knight of the Rose?"
Alex: Uh, correct.

It is too bad there's not a version by the Russian Ballets out there.

So, just to be clear, the 800 clue in the inventors category asked for the person who invented the stock ticker? I suppose that is much easier than trying to identify another person who was inspired to invent something else, by the stock ticker.
