And was that story about Haiti and Liechtenstein true? Wikipedia says it was, but it also does not list Haiti as being in the 1936 Olympics.
Aced the quiz, although took me a while to get Andorra (got it a fraction before Sheldon said it - using J! rules, I count it. ;) )

The "only non-rectangular flag" is a bit of a misnomer - first of all, is a square a rectangle? (Some say yes, some say no). Also, Sheldon didn't specify national flag, residents of the Buckeye State (like Robert KS and others) would protest. "World's only non-quadrilateral national flag" is an epithet that more suits Nepal's flag. So, Sheldon's wording is close enough for J! but, as we all know, sometimes isn't *precisely* right.

The Haiti/Liechtenstein thing I have heard, but honestly I haven't seen any concrete evidence about it, but it is oft-repeated by vexillologists as well (such as here on my favourite vexillological site). (My favourite side anecdote of one person I came across mentioning the 1936 incident likened it to "two women who showed up for a party in the same dress.)

Well, the ones who say no would be wrong. :)

Oh, and did a bit of research on the second half of this, apparently Haiti announced its participation, but didn't appear at the Games.

Oops! Reretaken Down has slid down to page 2. Better do something to bump it back up . . .

Interviewing as a law school student for a new associate position in a large firm, as I did back in the late 1990s, is not normal. Typically in the interview process, I would get passed around like a serving dish at Thanksgiving: the recruiting coordinator would first make sure I was warmed up and ready to serve, and then a half-dozen or so attorneys – usually a few partners and a few associates – would each get a taste of me for 30 minutes, so they could decide whether I was palatable enough for the firm to devour me entirely. . . . Find out who not to invite to the table in A Recipe for Disaster.

$20,584,000

That's how much The Artist has brought in over the past 11 weeks.

And it's the frontrunner.
At least it's passed The Hurt Locker...

I don't expect Best Picture winners to also (regularly) be box office blockbusters, and simply being widely seen by the public doesn't mean it has any critical value...but if the public ignores it, can it really be classified as the 'Best' either?

Change of pace. Nothing you will laugh at in this one.

Strike that. Nothing you are supposed to laugh at.

That's Why They Call It Work

Good read, Bill. Something tells me that that's -- by far -- the norm and not the exception.

Wow, usually I only make my children cry. :)

Thank you both for reading my story and for your generous comments.

I've seen those children. I have trouble believing they ever cry given their sunny dispositions.

good column, Rex. And don't forget the corollary! "(Murphy's Law here)... and at the worst possible time."

I also firmly believe in Hofstadter's Law

I thought Hofstadter's Law might be Leonard's corollary to Sheldon's "Roommate Agreement."

(When I clicked on the link, I totally thought it was something related to that too. :))
