I'm in the club for picking the wrong specialty. Rivers? Never would have guessed. My score is 10, but it jumped to 13 in the scoreboard.

I predicted that Prague would be neg-bait since its bridges are so frequently photographed, but I also consciously avoided Vienna since in my memory the Danube/Donau flows past it, not through it. Suburban expansion?

The dictionary says potage is a thick soup. Wikipedia says it is a thick soup stew, or porridge. The word porridge comes from the word potage.

I answered soup, which is think is the best answer, because stews and porridges (the soups, not the hot cereals) are always thick and therefore don't quite fit with the "especially" qualifier. At the same time, I think crediting stew or porridge would be fair.

Like a few others here, I protest. This time, I have God as my lawyer. :)

I got my answer from remembering Genesis 25:29. Compare the King James (hoity toidy) version with the New International (contemporary speak). I'd accept soup too, but I wouldn't discount stew lest the Lord smite thee.

I know Wikipedia is hardly the final authority, but its article on Potage begins: Potage (from Old French pottage; "potted dish") is a category of thick soups, stews, or porridges, in some of which meat and vegetables are boiled together with water until they form into a thick mush. I don't see how stew or porridge could be counted wrong. The word "porridge" itself presumably comes from a variant pronunciation of "potage".

I think a lot of the controversy may stem from which language we're dealing with. The word potage comes from the French, and in France potage would only be used for a soup, unless the soup has bread in it, in which case it's a soup (clever folk, those Frenchies!). A stew in France is referred to as a ragoût. Porridge, meanwhile is bouillie, not that I can recall ever seeing one in France. Since I've never heard anyone outside of a restaurant use the word potage in English, I will defer to others on its meaning in that language.
