Thanks for doing this, Paul. Unless you object, I'll take over keeping this running list current and place it in the first post.Paucle wrote:Combined:

To Our Children's Children's Children -- The Moody Blues (if you count albums)
Turn! Turn! Turn! -- The Byrds
Up, Up and Away
left off Woppy's add since it does not appear to be top 40.
You've already found 5 that I didn't have on my original list! Other than writing a program to parse the complete list of Billboard singles (which I haven't done, nor do I intend to,) I don't know of a way to come up with a systematic list of all correct answers. I doubt that this is one of those categories that'll show up on Wikipedia. (Maybe after this I should create one.)
Something else to ponder re this quiz: Three singles have already been noted -- "Turn! Turn! Turn!", "Fun Fun Fun" and "Stop Stop Stop" -- in which the word is repeated more than 2 times. I know of 7 others.

OK, your job -- should you decide to accept it -- is to come up with other such records which miss by a single letter.alietr wrote:Damn. Holly Holy misses by one letter.
Gee, thanks. I guess I'll ask my grandmother whether she knows of any.seaborgium wrote:I posed the question to my mom, and she came up with "Up, Up and Away."

Ah, yes. The song that apparently encouraged my family to buy a Rambler as our first car. I don't think we ever got it up to 120, though.Rex Kramer wrote:"Beep Beep" by the Playmates

I'm going to say "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)" by the even-greater-and-only-slightly-less-bizarrely-dying Marvin Gaye, but it doesn't count against my 4 because it was obvious once billy pilgrim posted.billy pilgrim wrote:PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! James Brown

ABBA's too late for the party, Peggles. They didn't come around until the mid 70's.

No matter, they had one of their own with Goody Goody Gumdrops.
And I believe we already established that Zou Bisou Bisou did not chart, at least not until 2012.

One might argue that M - which is the phonetic of the lyric- is not a word. Nor is Um.RandyG wrote:Retroactive rule: more than 5 doesn't count.MarkBarrett wrote:What if the word is repeated six times?

Judge Judy would agree. Many times I've heard her say, "Um is not a word." Randy put it on page one so that's good enough for me.billy pilgrim wrote:One might argue that M - which is the phonetic of the lyric- is not a word. I've heard the song used recently for a Hyundai ad with Jeff Bridges doing voice work.
