UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Listed in 1983, this complex finished c. 1650 features inland semiprecious stones & Arabic calligraphy.

What is the Taj Mahal? Margaret said Alhambra; (She was missing the last couple letters; it was built in the mid-14th century in Granada, Spain), David said the Kabaa (should be spelled Kaaba, in Mecca, believed to have been built around 2130 B.C.); Lukas said Hagia Sophia (As many of us know from a FJ earlier this year, completed around 562 A.D.

I have a bad feeling that David's winning streak is going to be ended by Margaret today.

I got ten right today. I also got FJ right though it was only an educated guess.

I can't believe after that buzz saw that that happened. Who would've thought?

Why did David make such a large wager? Was he that confident about the category? :?

That may be the most inexplicable finish I have ever seen.

I would have bet my life that was a triple-get.

And yeah ... David ... wtf? Ouch.

Congrats, Margaret!

You've got to be kidding me with those wagers...the return of the (nearly) all-in suicide wager from 2nd, and a ~4600 overwager from the leader?! WTF?

Anyway, FJ took a while, but Taj Mahal seemed the most likely.

So...congrats Margaret! Sometimes, NOT making a boneheaded wager is enough to win :D

Bad wagers by the guys... I'll leave it at that.

I was pleasantly surprised when my WAG for FJ turned out to be correct.

As soon as I saw that Category Libros por Niños I knew it was not what they meant, and it wasn't. Those are dumb mistakes by people who keep thinking Spanish is easy, and they don't check. Yes, I am very put out by them. Do you think they come to lurk here? Libros por Niños means "Books by Children." What they should have written is LIBROS PARA NIÑOS.

Rant finished. I guessed the Blue Mosque.

Congrats to Margaret on the win!

I thought that the J! round board was kind of bad but I enjoyed the DJ round.

FJ was an instant get, but mainly from the year. The "Arabic" part made me briefly consider the Kaaba but I thought that the Kaaba was older than that so I stuck with my first instinct.

i thought the same thing about FJ. I wasn't really sure if the Taj Mahal was a "complex", but could come up with nothing better. Then when they kept coming up with other responses, I had to hold my breath to see if I got it right.

A champ of Asian background from Somerville, Massachusetts. Where have we seen that before?

Congrats, Margaret on your win. While you were lucky the other two overbet, you did make a smart bet in FJ, giving you a dollar lead over the bow tie guy if you were right and he offers David a tie.

That was a truly amazing ending. David, are you a Douglas Adams fan?

That certainly was an entertaining game throughout, with multiple lead changes, and a shocking ending.

When I went to the Taj Mahal, I feared it might not live up to expectations. Fortunately, it far exceeded them. It really is a beautiful complex.

Congrats to Margaret. Are you by any chance having a public viewing party for tomorrow's game at a bar in Somerville?

Indeed. The Kaaba is an understandable guess, but it actually doesn't fit the clue in any fashion. It's extremely old (no true date known, but certainly well before 1650, and I feel that should have been obvious), there's pretty much nothing on the Kaaba itself (what you generally see in pictures is a cloak that's replaced each year), and, most importantly, it's not even a World Heritage Site.

They should neg both, but at least there is some precedent for Smokey the Bear:

Shoulda got FJ, but ended up with The Dome of the Rock. Hagia Sophia was a terrible guess, as it was stolen from the Byzantines.

I didn't want to nit about that Peter the Rabbit also, but the Spanish had "the" rabbit, so they could have accepted that. All those foreign words and phrases are very interesting in themselves, but they usually get so botched. There was something the other day that was a Latin phrase and Alex pronounced it as if it were Italian. Oh, well.
