FJ Category: 20th Century Technology

"The first major use of simultaneous translation, before adoption by the U.N., was in this European city in 1945 & 1946."
Spoiler
What is Nuremberg? Bridget said The Hague, Ayana said Paris.

Margaret: 7,200 + 6,000 = 13,200, 2-day total of $17,199
Bridget: 6,800 - 6,000 = 800
Ayana: 7,900 - 6,900 = 1,000

"ARGH" - me, watching that game, especially the wrong answers on Final

Congrats to Margaret on your 2 day run so far. I had a feeling you'd be a multi-day champ when you showed up and sounded so excited.

A lackluster game to watch. FJ was an instaget.

Well, that was rough. I guess they can't all be thrillers.

I try not to stereotype, but that sports category was doomed from the moment it was revealed. Usually I grumble about it being left for last, but this time it was a miracle we saw 4 clues. Clyde Drexler?!

Instaget FJ. Probably would've had it even without the years. Another surprising non-triple get.

Not the prettiest of wins, but can't argue wth a sole get. Congrats again Margaret!

Congrats to Margaret on the second win!

I think that the writers were just trying to make us all feel old with that milestones category.

There were some not so great clues on this board. That reverse ruling in the common bond category showed exactly why that category should not be used.

I had no idea on FJ and guessed Geneva. It was a forehead slapper.

That sports category was rough. I mean, it was easy-mode for Double Jeopardy (Bobby Thompson's team seemed okay, but Michael Jordan at 1600? Coin Flip at 800?), but stunned silence is the worst. I do think Bridget is owed some credit for actually trying to answer a question she didn't know to grab the lead. Ayana's attempt at answering seems a little more dubious (I wonder if Margaret should have tried after Ayana's bad answer). I mean, I know we're not all sports fans, but Michael Jordan was a triple stumper when given basketball, 1990's, and against the Jazz? Absolutely brutal.

I missed DJ. I said Yalta and I wouldn't have gotten to Nuremberg, though that makes a lot of sense in retrospect.

But you'll take it, won't you?

I knew it was Nuremberg (just think about the headphones in the movie "Judgment at Nuremberg"), but almost couldn't pull the name out. Five seconds later I had it, saving me from a truly dismal week.

I'm not seeing how FJ is an instaget. Wasn't Berlin divided between the four major allies after the war? Berlin seems to me a far more obvious guess than Nuremberg.
0-fered in wine. Gimme a beer anytime. Ran Phoenicia and loved how those darn Etruscans keep coming back.

They held some pretty famous.... legal.... proceedings... there around those times. I'd wager that for most Americans it's the first and only thing they know about Nuremberg. Seeing the years made it instaget for me.

(Edit: As I figured, it's 2 of my top 5 Google results for "Nuremberg" - your mileage may vary.)

Yeeeeeeeeess, but I still see nothing pointing to Nuremberg instead of Berlin.

You over-thought it. If you watch the show regularly you have to know what kind of TOMs the writers use, and if you thought of Nuremberg then you should probably know that the writers wanted you to make the leap to the famous trials from the clue. The correct answer being Berlin would have required too deep of knowledge for the writers to use it as a clue for the regular show.

My first thought was Yalta or Potsdam, then 1946 led me to judge Nuremburg as the correct city. I've never seen the movie, but I've seen pictures of the defendants with the phones.

Anyone watch the post game credits? Man, Ayana was short!!

When I saw we had a clue crew doing the last clue in the other remaining category with a map, I knew we wouldn't have time to finish the playoff category.

I wish Alex wouldn't be so condescending to women, especially minority women.

Why didn't they give Bridget her money back before she made her bet on the DD?

Another DVR failure, time to call the techs at the cable company. At this rate I'll be meeting Charlie Sheen before long ("Don't re-enact scenes from "Platoon" with Charlie Sheen...").

Thanks to xxaaaxx for the early post. Solved it after a few seconds of thought. My first thought was the peace treaty, but figured that would not be over two years. I momentarily considered Berlin, and then (click!) the war trials came to mind and I locked in Nuremberg. FWIW, I since researched and found the Paris Peace Treaties were in 1947 as the result of conferences from 1945-6 so the one who said Paris was not far off.

Congrats to Margaret on the second win! Since I didn't see it, I can safely say I thought it was a superb performance.
