TCONA 2- March 1 deadline
Just posting this as a PSA that March 1 is the deadline for registering for the Trivia Championships of North America in Las Vegas, August 10-12. It's not the actual deadline, but apparently the price goes up after that date.
This is the second annual, I attended last year, it was fun. There were a bunch of individual and team trivia events (you can be by yourself and still get on a team, as I did). Ken Jennings, Jerome Vered, other Jeopardy champions and trivia hotshots were there. There were even bonus trivia games (with buzzers!) in hotel rooms outside of the scheduled events.
Anyway, just posting this for the few that might be interested that weren't aware of the deadline.

Re: TCONA 2- March 1 deadline
I have a question... I went to the website and it does look really fun, plus I am a Las Vegas addict. But were there any women there as participants? Any women from this board planning to go this year?

Re: TCONA 2- March 1 deadline
I'd estimate there were about 100 people there. Thinking back, I know for a fact there were at least 4 females there, but there were probably a few more than that. Maybe others who were there can provide more accurate numbers.

Of the 98 participants from last year at TCONA, 16 were female. Right now registrations are tracking at about 25% female (our goal is 33%)gloriaclemente wrote:I have a question... I might as well mention that apparently I can pass on the lower price point to 2 referrals until March 15, so feel free to PM me if you want to sign up at this point.

TCONA 2- July 26 deadline
The 2nd annual Trivia Championships of North America is approaching quickly. It will be held in Las Vegas, August 10-12 at the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. I will be presenting an official TCONA individual competition called "5 BY 5" which features categories and buzzers, like Jeopardy. See to http://www.tcona.com for more info. The prices go up soon, so sign up today!
If you are going, you can play the J! Simulator. I am bringing it for after hours competition. I have presented the J! simulator at TCONA 1 and many have said it allows people to play the most realistic game of Jeopardy without being on the actual show. Last year, during an impromptu after-TCONA party, about 20 of us gathered together to play Jeopardy into the wee hours of the night.
I am planning to host an after-TCONA J! simulator party on Sunday, August 12. If you would like to show off your creativity and write game(s) to be used on the simulator, they will be greatly appreciated. If you are attending the event, you can even host the game(s) you write. As an incentive for writers attending TCONA, I am going to schedule some 90-minute sessions at various times on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the simulator just for writers (4 at a time). Each writer will host their game while the other 3 play those games.
I created an Excel template file that can be used to create your game. Send an email to b u z z e r b a t t l e @ g m a i l . c o m (no spaces) and I will send you the template and instructions.
When you have completed a game, send the excel file to the above email address. After the official TCONA schedule has been solidified, I will set up times for simulator sessions. The earlier you submit your game, the more choices of sessions you will have.
Everyone is invited to the August 12 after-party, but depending on the turn-out, you may have fewer chances to play. Either way, it will be a fun way to end the weekend. So if you can, plan your schedule so you can attend.
Hope to see you in Vegas.
Bill

Re: TCONA 2- March 1 deadline
I just bought my plane ticket, arriving in Las Vegas Thursday evening and leaving Tuesday morning. I spoke to Paul Bailey last night and he said he'll keep the $150 price in effect through today, even though the website says the price would be $200 after 7/25. See you there!

J! Champion Tony Hightower has posted several TCONA related podcasts on his website:

With some great pub-style trivia and a heaping dose of irreverent humor, they're worth a listen even if you won't be attending. If you are attending, I look forward to meeting you.

Yes, if your schedule allows, do this. Last year this was definitely a highlight of my weekend (if not *the* highlight). Not only was it amazing to play, but it was fun to watch, too.BuzzerBattleBill wrote: If you are going, you can play the J! Simulator.
Should be fun! I'm pumped.

Just in case this helps anybody, Ken Jennings tweeted that the posted a link to a discount for TCONA on his blog.
Also, there's apparently going to be an event called Kno'dgeball, which appears to be trivia combined with dodgeball. Oh man, I hope I get to peg Austin Powers.

I play-tested this on Sunday. It was fun -- the big problem was concentrating too hard on the dodgeball and not being able to, or forgetting to, answer the trivia questions.omgwheelhouse wrote:Also, there's apparently going to be an event called Kno'dgeball, which appears to be trivia combined with dodgeball. Pfft. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. And if you can answer SHC then you can handle Knodgeball.
