Re: TD 432 - Throwback III (Final results)

Thanks for a fun TD and shout out to the extremely cumbersome title of Golf Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples on the Sega 32X for remembering ol’ Fred for one of the bonus questions.

Re: TD 432 - Throwback III (Q1-Q10 revealed)

Me on Q9: I should use Newfoundland Time.
Also me on Q9: Nah, people know Newfoundland Rime because it’s got the weird half-hour thing. I’ll just put Atlantic Time, the super secret time zone to those of us in the US.

Re: Wednesday, October 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not going to waste a poll request on it, but did most of you get The Member of the Wedding? I'd honestly never heard of it, but it has tons of Archive hits (albeit most back when the canon had a heavier focus on academic topics). It’s definitely Quiz Bowl knowledge for me. Your usual McCullers ...

Re: Tuesday, October 8, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Custer felt like pretty big negbait on FJ, but considering no one who could actually record his last words made it out, it just didn’t fit and I had to do a quick pivot to someone who died playing poker. My best friend is also from Deadwood and I think she would have been very disappointed if I hadn...

Out of five questions, I currently have three sheep, one almost-sheep, and a singleton. I feel like I’m getting close to the TD equivalent of the Golden Sombrero.

Agree with all of the harder than last week’s comments. The before and after question really annoyed me as part of the answer was in the question and it read really awkwardly to me. And I said pointer on the dog breed.

One Sheep and one Singleton. Perfectly balanced.

I have apparently greatly underestimated people’s memories of Nick Price and his home country.

Chalk me up with an answer for “remembrance” as a proto-Memorial Day thing for maybe remembering the tenth anniversary of the end of the Revolutionary War or something.

When was the last time a daily double wasn’t found?

     Living in Kentucky gave me the edge on the Bowling Green question, since the Kentucky school's nickname is the Hilltoppers. On the topic of etymology:

THE PERIODIC TABLE

In ancient times, this element was named after a Mediterranean island where it was abundant.

I really like this one! And I had not heard that bit about its etymology, as my answer of rhodium would indicate.

The buzzer saved the Baseball Managers category from being a meme-worthy repeat of the infamous Football category.

Dust Bowl was my first thought, was worried it might have been coined earlier, but just made way too much sense. Glad I trusted my instincts.

On the slim one, was anyone actually familiar with any names besides Slim Whitman? In my head, I convinced myself I’d heard of Guitar Slim, but I can’t name anything about him, like when he lived. Or what he looked like. Or any of his songs. The only reason I even have some knowledge of Slim Whitma...

Emma Boettcher's father is also named Kevin. That's a heck of a coincidence.
Maybe the current Kevin is part of a secret government Boettcher cloning and Jeopardy engineering project. Each subsequent Boettcher gathers more and more info into creating the ultimate Boettcher player.

Thanks in no small part to a career low in CAA, which is 100% luck, I punched my ticket to the LLRC as of yesterday. Going to be interesting to see how things shake out next summer with the much larger player base.

Dale Evans came up waaaay back in the final of the American West ML. I missed it then. I missed it now. Working really hard to commit it to memory for the inevitable next time.

FJ was “Is St. Helen’s in the Cascades? I guess I don’t have anything else.”

...and no pesto I've ever had has had pine nuts... Are you sure about that? Admittedly, alternatives can be used, but the nuts get pulverized during the making so the sauce itself has no visible nuts. So, no I guess I'm not. If that's the case, I'm even more surprised that 92% knew it is pine nuts,...
