Two words. Always two words.
One of my J! life goals is to ring in on a clue about that particular singer and respond, "Who is Loaf?"

Re: Tuesday, January 11, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

In previous posts I've mentioned that I very rarely look ahead at the line-up for the week's worth of players while others look at all five days as soon as it is released. It's only now that I've seen the names of the players for Wednesday in preparing my scoresheet for tomorrow. :o Not sure I foll...

Re: Tuesday, January 11, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For me, the Final was as simple as, "What Broadway role is Sarah Jessica Parker famed for?" I didn't even think of what the Merman character could have been until after the 30 seconds was up. I did briefly start considering whether the correct response could have been "Dolly". M...

Given some of the clues last week, it looks a wee bit like gratuitously including the sculptor's name (as opposed to just making it a clue about the statue) might have been an attempted head fake to get you thinking about hockey. Not a good one, fortunately...

we'll throw in the word "fair" to push you even further onto the wrong track. Would it have been better or worse, do you think, if they used the word "fete", which is what it was actually called? This clue should've been a slam dunk for anyone with this on their bookshelf: The D...

Name a PAIR of musicians that met in the 50s, so they were probably big in the 60s or 70s, and we'll throw in the word "fair" to push you even further onto the wrong track.

Unsurprising that all three contestants had the same incorrevt response.

I don't have anything to say, I just had to quote this.
You mean you don't remember the body of every clue that contains information that has come up exactly once in the last 20 years?

FJ seemed very YEKIOYD. I said Seine, thinking the Louvre is right by the banks of the Seine, so that seemed plausible. The IJ crossed my mind too, but it seemed too obscure for a FJ. If you haven't heard of the 1966 flood, how would you reason your way to it?

Re: What would be one suggestion that you would like to add to Jeopardy?

None of the above. My top pick would be to go back to showing the text of video clues as they're read. And also maybe keeping the score in the corner the way sports broadcasts do.

I don't think I've ever been less confident in a FJ that I solved correctly. Adding 3 feet to a natural feature didn't strike me as something that nations could shake hands on. Technically, I wrote "the official height of Mt. Everest" and basically just felt like I was stumped about what e...

At first I was confused with the Basho clue. Isn't a haiku 5/7/5? I counted 5/5/4. I then did some digging, then it hit me: The syllables are Japanese: 夏草や 兵どもが 夢の跡 Natsukusa ya/ Tsuwamonodomo ga/ Yume no ato That occurred to me. Then I thought about it more, and it all made sense. Not every langua...

Why wouldn't "elementary" be correct for FJ? Some of the particles (positrons, etc) discovered in the 1940s were referred to as elementary particles at the time, until the discovery of quarks in the 1960s reframed the definition. It doesn't seem well pinned. But that's subatomic particles...

That said, a specific detail from a single 35-year-old episode of a cult children's tv show that hasn't been regularly aired much since then, is a bad subject for a general knowledge trivia quiz, especially one aimed at college professors.
My thoughts exactly.
