Re: Thursday, May 28, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

In the spirit of answering something for Final, I tried "upswing," which I was pretty sure would be wrong, but at least sounded vaguely musical.

I couldn't process Ancient History for $1200 because I was too distracted by millenium.

Re: Thursday, May 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

J! Archive is down for the moment, so I can't provide the exact wording of the clue, but for the rhyming words Daily Double, I said "peasant and pleasant." Any objections as to why that would be wrong? (OED says that peasant can be used as an adjective.)

Re: Friday, December 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To assess the difficulty of the sports category: I know next to nothing about sports and I got the four non–Daily Double clues right. I knew what the Daily Double was going for, and the only reason I got it wrong was because I couldn't remember exactly how many people were on a football team and sai...

Re: FJs for the 9/23/19 week

0 for 5 because I didn't figure out Sydney Opera House until there were only about three seconds left in the think music.

After looking up definitions, I'll assume that my response of "flint-hearted" would have been deemed incorrect.

Re: Wednesday, November 28, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I think the writers were trying to steer people away from answers such as "God Bless America" with the first part of the clue: "In a tribute with no precedent." I think their intention was to point out that while playing a song reverent to another country might be unusual, it would be unprecedented ...

Re: Monday, November 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

(My affiliate is on a one-day delay because of football...) I'm a little surprised to see no objections to the reversal on the Y2K clue -- 00 isn't a year, which is what the clue explicitly asked for. At best, maybe you could argue that she should have been prompted to be more specific if her respon...

4-Letter Verbs for $200:

TO ORGANIZE PAPERS, OR TO ADMINISTER TO ONE'S RAGGED NAILS

I said "clip."

Re: Thursday, December 25, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was left wondering why the throne category wasn't called "Game of Thrones," but I see via the Archive that the show already did that in 2012. Alex inadvertently helped me in Final Jeopardy! when he remarked that International Symbols was "a new category." With that comment fresh in my mind, the fi...

Re: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

What is the fans' consensus on what seems to be increasingly frequent "response can be formed from some of the letters in this word" categories? I audibly groan every time one is revealed because unlike the contestants, I can't see the word "METAMORPHOSIS" up at the top of the board. So by the time ...

That was my interpretation, too.

The clue: Out on a date without an adult watching over you

My response: What is "unsupervised"?

Re: Monday, December 31, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

This is strictly a guess: I suspect that with as famous of a guest presenter as a United States President, the show was determined to allow all five of the Harlem clues to air. Unfortunately, the contestants saved the category for last, resulting in a long Double Jeopardy (even with that one-word ma...

Re: Wednesday, October 17, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Not sure how much things have changed since then, but four or five years ago, I was in the audience for five episodes. For the last two, I was seated over by where they put the contestants' friends and family, and I could see the monitor that relayed signaling device information. I remember that it ...

Re: Tuesday, July 24, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Would there be any merit to an argument that Final Jeopardy requires a higher degree of precision than the first two rounds?

I agree that it's a tough call, but I think I'm siding with the judges on this one. Partially describing the correct response isn't the same as giving the correct response.

Re: Thursday, May 17, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Hello -- long-time game show fan, first-time poster to this board. I've noticed through these Washington, D.C. shows that when they return from commercial to reveal the Final Jeopardy! clue, Alex is suddenly much larger compared to the game board than he was before the commercial break. Question for...
