Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I end the season with a 6(4)-2(2) win and will be staying in C next season! I really thought that my answer of "doldrums" might be acceptable for trade winds. Oh well. Chicago was a total guess on my part. I didn't think that the answer was a proper noun, but I couldn't come up with anything that ma...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I got a 6(4)-1(2) win to bring myself out of the relegation zone going into the last day! For the explorers question I had Cortez, Pisarro, Balboa, Velazquez, and Ponce de Leon under consideration, but I ultimately went with Pisarro. Considering how we have a Ponce Avenue and a Ponce City Market her...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I went the wrong way between Road Rules and Real World, but still won 5(3)-3(2). I am still in the relegation zone to go back to D, but I am tied in points with the lowest ranking person in my rundle who is above it. The last two MDs will be agonizing!

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I suffered my first 0(0) since LL79. PKU was the only one where I had a chance. I thought that I had seen the term on Coke Zero cans and tried to recall it, but was off with PKI. I had no chance on any of the others.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

The Bechdel test sounds vaguely familiar. I am not the best person to judge its difficulty since that is a weak area of mine, but I am still shocked that it played easier than Rocky. I really thought that Rocky would have around an 80% get rate. Heck, there was a question on antagonists from the Roc...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I couldn't think of a single sport that had 3 words in its name. My dad used to watch Northern Exposure, but I couldn't have named a character other than Maurice Minnifield. I got the rest though and won my match, and got lucky with a 3 for funkadelic, which to me was an easy 0 to give my opponent.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Even as much as my film knowledge is lacking I couldn't believe that there was a film series with 31 entries that I almost certainly had never heard of. I tried to think of a book or book series that may have spawned a bunch of movies, like Goosebumps or The Babysitter's Club, but I had nothing. I h...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I got a much needed 4(4)-1(1) win yesterday. I was so happy that I pulled Gerwig. My first thoughts were Ephron and Diablo Cody, then I thought of Ladybird (which I've seen), then I pulled Gerwig's name after a few seconds. My only hesitation was that I thought that the common link was female direct...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

There are two Americana questions, my opponent lives in Romania, and they have a .352 lifetime batting average in American History, so this should be an easy win, right? Nope, they got Washington and the Mt Rushmore question, and I lost 8(5)-5(3). I didn't know the order of the Presidents on the mou...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

This season started out harder for me, though I am under the impression that the questions have just done a good job of attacking my weaknesses and that the leaguewide get rates have been about average. The last couple days have played easy, so I am back to being at about my average historic TCA. Li...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I thought that I had a good shot at a 6-pack yesterday, but I had a RTFQ moment on the first question. For some reason I thought that the theme was men who walked on the moon, so I spent my time deciding between Selene and Luna. I thought that it was an odd way of asking a mythology question. The me...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Yeah, I give up on defense this season. I just tied for the 5th time this season, 5(4)-5(3). That wouldn't be a surprise if I was in A, but it's crazy given that I am in C and and neither I nor any of my opponents has had a 9 point day in any of my matches this season. I gave my opponent a 0 yesterd...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Went the wrong way between Denmark and Indonesia and Texas Instruments and Shockley (I thought the scientist had a company named for him). Getting either one would have meant a win instead of a loss  But at least the Commish seems to be gifting me '90s pop culture questions this season with Go...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I instant got Toy Story 4 (I haven't seen it and I don't watch many movies) and Frankenstein, and those both had under 50% get rates, yet Jay-Z was above 50%. I didn't see that coming. I waffled between Eminem and Missy Elliott on the rap question and went with the former. I knew that Eminem release...

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I liked this FJ clue, but I think that it should have been saved for the ToC or the next super tournament. All I could come up with was Gomorrah.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Yesterday I had 3 correct, which was good for a tie, but it was my first day this season with 3 or more correct. This season is still playing tough for me. I would like to stay in C, but the questions will have to play really favorably for me in the back half of the season in order for that to happen.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Well I am paying the price so far for the previous season and a half's questions playing to my strengths, as I have opened this season with 5 TCA. I have been a little lucky though as I have managed two ties. Yesterday I tied 3(1)-3(3). Being a '90s Nickelodeon fan, Good Burger was an easy get for m...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Apparently "planet" wasn't accepted for "exoplanet". Though more confusing is 34% picking -black hole-. Black hole here. I think the question was a huge negbait for black hole, which was predicted decades earlier but the actual observation was sometime in the baby boomer era. I interpreted the ques...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I'm in C Meridian Div 2. This is only the second time that I've been promoted to C, and the first time was not pretty. The questions in LL81 and the back half of LL80 were favorable for me, so I am probably due for a not so great season. But I'm glad that we're almost back!

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

It sounds like the event was a huge success! I am glad that everyone seems to have had a great time. I really hope that I can make it back to Vegas next year, especially if there are auditions again.

Best of luck to all of you who are in the pool!
