Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

Colby's and Brad's teams look the strongest, but no result would surprise me with these teams.

Re: Friday, September 21, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I lost out on the 50 50 90 guess between von Braun and Goddard.

All I had on FJ was cerulean. For some reason I was thinking in terms of ancient names for countries. Talk about a forehead slapper!

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I don't have a problem with the normal QF system in tournaments, but I also don't like the idea of something happening like in the Teen Reunion tournament where there were 4 prelim games and then one finals. But yeah, TPTB do generally emphasize money won. It is the tiebreaker after number of games ...

Re: Wednesday, September 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Patrick Henry was my first thought, but the mention of Boston turned me away from him since I associate him with Virginia. Then Sam Adams was my next thought. Then I switched to Paul Revere.

Annapolis here on FJ, even though I knew that the year was off.

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I mostly agree with Mark, though I don't see how the team format works against Arthur more than anyone else who could have been picked. I also don't see how Joon or any other contestant *should* have been in the BotD when there were so few spots for so many deserving contestants. The only really egr...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I see Arthur Chu's absence has already been discussed. I really hope he declined rather than was not invited, because it's a real slight if it's the latter. Right. I say this as someone who can definitely be rubbed the wrong way by Arthur’s personality and politics — I hope this was his decision, b...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

Also, I'm curious: does anybody know why Madden got the opportunity to play this time around after he turned down (or was barred from?) the BotD tournament on legal grounds related to his job?

Re: Jeopardy! All Stars First Pick Poll

Roger would be my first pick. My next choices I think would be Alex, Larissa, Ben, Pam, then a toss up between Alan, David, and Matt. That is a fair point about Ben with FJs, but I feel like there was at least a little luck involved there. Arthur outplayed him in the other rounds, though Ben was the...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I think that to increase the skill of contestants on the regular show TPTB would also have to increase the difficulty of the test. No respect to anyone on the board--especially since I am usually borderline on passing the online test and have never done better than a 45--but it doesn't exactly take ...

Re: TCONA 8

I wrote a few questions for the quiz bowl tournament and have access to all the questions compiled by category (there is a note that includes which round and number in the round they were used for). I have permission to share them if anyone wants them.

Re: Friday, July 27, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This was a great board to end the season, but man did it get the better of me. Props to all three contestants for handling it beautifully! As much as I disagree with her politics and usually dislike entire categories with a famous person reading clues, I really enjoyed Nancy Pelosi's appearance. Pro...

I have to admit that I only vaguely remember hearing of Billy Graham's passing, so I had no idea on FJ.

Congrats to Rick on the win!

Re: Wednesday, July 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got FJ only because I knew where the Yalu River is. The TOM never would have helped me.

It stinks to see Dave go, but congrats to him on the run!

Re: Tuesday, July 24, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Tara needed to go for it on the DD in the geography category. Alex even encouraged her to...and then she went for the nice round number. I was surprised that Colombia was a TS, though I have to wonder if the contestants misinterpreted the clue as not asking for a modern day country. It was so awesom...

Re: Monday, July 23, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Despite the runaway I thought that this was a great game with three very good players. I joined Dave on the Trenton neg to open the game. I would have also joined Dave on not knowing the turtle DD. The FJ category was one where I probably wouldn't wager to cover from first place in a non-crush game....

Re: Friday, July 20, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Congrats to Dave! It's awesome to see a regular TCONA goer do well on the show. And congrats to Ryan on the run! The music of 20 years ago category was an easy run for me, and I am actually going to the 20th anniversary show for the Lauryn Hill album in a few weeks. It's so hard to believe that the ...

Re: Wednesday, July 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got FJ, but possibly too late and I almost certainly wouldn't have gotten it while under pressure. I couldn't remember who Reagan ran against in 1984, but I knew that 1980 fit.

Instant get FJ. Funny that one of the contestants had the same last name as another noteworthy explorer.
