Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I had another 1-point loss yesterday. The wrong side of the coin coming up for me between the sun/the moon and Mars/Venus cost me a tie.

I also wouldn't have guessed that Joan of Arc would play so much easier than Jacobean.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I took a 1 point loss yesterday. I had an outside shot at drinking a beer, but I switched from Hull to Orr (I know very little about hockey) and considered Westminster but went with Piccadilly. I know that it was a pretty easy set but I am surprised that Westminster didn't play easier, as I thought ...

Re: RIP India Cooper

This is very sad to hear. I never met her, but it was a joy to see her compete in the three super tournaments that she was invited to. May she RIP.

Re: Learned League 84

Seeing Ike Barinholtz and Dave Weigel on Millionaire and thinly hiding their LL association, I was wondering (besides Mick Mulvaney) who the other "famous" (not Jeopardy types) people in LL. I think a few others have been mentioned in the past, but I can't remember who they are. MazinC appears to b...

Re: Monday, April 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I knew which movie the FJ correct response was from; I have not seen it, but I listened to the soundtrack when it first came out. But there was no way that I was going to remember the song.

Re: Boardie Poll About Taking The Test

I was in the pool for the 2005 college championship. I also auditioned for the adult show in 2008 after I passed the online test. I have taken the online test almost every year since 2011 (I have missed taking it a few times in that span). A few times I bombed it, I was borderline on passing most ye...

Re: Learned League 84

It felt like a tough season, but probably because I was fighting to stay above the relegation zone for most of it. It probably didn't help that my .600 defense was tied for my worst defensive season outside of my rookie season. I did end things on a positive note though with a 7(5)-2(2) win, and fin...

Re: Learned League 84

And I've gotten many of the season's hardest questions (Beverly Sills, Apu, Naguib Mahfouz) while botching apparent gimmes like Fatboy Slim. It's just never duLL. I was surprised that Fatboy Slim played as easy as he did, since I didn't think that he had been relevant since...1999, or thereabouts. ...

Re: Our Current Situation

I am lucky to be able to work from home for my day job. I just pray that the economy doesn't go further south and jeopardize my job security. I also work part time at Publix stocking shelves. That job has provided me with extra spending money and kept me from going crazy from boredom on the weekends...

Re: Learned League 84

I had my first day this season with 5 or more correct, with a 7(5)-6(4) win. On the last question I spent a lot of time deliberating between guessing The Heidi Chronicles or an August Wilson play. I can't say that I have ever heard of either of the films or playwrights who were referenced in that qu...

Re: Learned League 84

Interesting result for me yesterday as I lost 3(1)-4(2), with Angie being my only get.

I had definitely heard of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but I didn't know anything about it. I figured that I would regret giving my opponent a 3 for that one.

Re: Learned League 84

Yesterday was a disaster. I spent the first half of my work day trying to remember the name of Truman's VP. I wrote a question about him way back when and remembered that he was from Kentucky, but couldn't pull his name until a few hours later. I figured that it could turn out to be the more obvious...

Re: The Jeopardy! Anytime Test

In the old days before the online test, they gave you a test in person, and those who did not pass where asked to leave (tell people you missed it by one, they would tell you). The room had a lot more people than today's auditions. In my audition that I got invited to after taking the online test, ...

Re: Learned League 84

Calhoun and Clay were instant gets, but I was only about 80% sure on Webster. I thought that it was a fine question, except that it may have been really hard for the LLamas who live outside of North America. If I have any gripe with the question it's that I thought that it was pointless to put the n...

My 5th straight tie! I stupidly talked myself out of champagne. I recognized Korbel as a brand name but was not familiar with the slogan and didn't see how "champagne" fit (I guessed "import"). I don't know what it was about seeing champagne as the correct response, but the second that I did I all o...

Re: Learned League 84

Another tie for me yesterday. I considered Ford but thought that a U.S. President as the answer would be too obvious, so I went with Edmund Muskie. When I first read the House question I thought that the answer was a show like Fear Factor or something similar. It took half the day of pondering the q...
