Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I disagree, and the massive ratings for James' run and the GOAT battle support me. Amazing trivia players are watched more than average trivia players. There were several people who auditioned who could put up similar runs on the show. Yeah, I have always heard that TPTB don't want another contesta...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When Shakespeare was revealed as the category for the second FJ I knew that it was over. I will never forget Ken's $75,000 game where he nailed the Shakespeare FJ and said later on that Shakespeare was a dream category for him. Your point would be stronger if Ken's Shakespeare knoweldge wasn't tota...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Congrats to Ken on prevailing! It was truly a spectacular series of performances. I had Maxwell on that DD, but I had a bad feeling that Brad was going to lock in on an English scientist. I had no idea on FJ 1. When Shakespeare was revealed as the category for the second FJ I knew that it was over. ...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 1 (1/7/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Great performances by all three players! I should start watching the show regularly again because there were so many clues that I should have known or just was not fast enough on (e.g. Boris Gudonov, Bulfinch, Rutherford). For the most part I thought that the clues were well written and of appropria...

I am so sorry to hear! I exchanged PMs with him a few times and he was always super nice and happy to help find information about past games.

May he RIP.

Re: LL83: Learned League

Yesterday's set was not kind to me. The only one I got was Assassin's Creed, and that was a total guess based on a series that I had heard of and was pretty sure was released around that time period. I also guessed India at first (based on the 1947 hint, which also made me think of Pakistan), but fo...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I needed a win yesterday to keep me from possible relegation. With 2 right it seemed unlikely, but I lucked into a 5(2)-3(3) win. I lost the coin flip between Oberlin and Wittenberg. There being a German city called Oberlin seemed more likely to me than there being a college in Ohio called Wittenber...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I was surprised by the low get rate on Marat at first, but looking back on it I think that the question not mentioning Corday or a bathtub probably made it a little bit harder than I thought it was at the time that I submitted. I attended UGA and have a pretty dismal pop music score, so it was nice ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Another tough day yesterday, with Camp David Accords my only get. And I said Marie Callender for Maria Callas  You may not take any solace in this, but I'd vote for that for the season's Very Best Wrong Answer. Oh I definitely thought about that and would consider it an honor! I just wasn't s...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Murakami is an extremely popular author in the quiz bowl canon. Norwegian Wood used to come up all the time, so that was an instant get for me in what has been a brutal past few days. Suzi Quatro's name rang no bell whatsoever for me, though I have only ever seen a few episodes of Happy Days.

Re: LL83: Learned League

The Commish may have been overly generous with me yesterday. I got credit for "Gundam Wing" and "King Cobra." I don't think that I should have gotten credit for either, especially the latter. I didn't know the Gundam question but I remembered that there was an anime called Gundam Wing that was popul...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Add me as another who had never heard of Wahhabi. I knew College Dropout (I got credit even though I didn't know that it had a "The") because it came up on the contestant exam when I auditioned for the college tournament in 2005. I didn't know it then, but I remember that the clue was something like...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I nearly had a Buckner loss yesterday, as I lost 4(3)-5(2). I was not expecting Prussic and bionicle to be my opponent's only gets. I thought of Prussia and didn't even know if I was on the right track and didn't know how to turn it into a 7-letter adjective, so I just put Prussia. I wasn't sure if ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

How did 68% get that Gillian Flynn question??? Yeah, I will admit that it is not an area that is a strong suit for me, but I had only ever heard of Gone Girl. I do remember the film being a big hit though, so maybe that helped. I guessed Veronica Mars and thought I had a decent shot. I also thought...

Instant get FJ. I wasn't sure but I didn't know what else it could be. And it was a more difficult version of the FJ clue that came up in the UToC!

Re: Wednesday, November 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not a movie person but I got Rosebud in about 15 seconds, but I never would have got plastics without being spotted the name of the movie that it's from. And I also would have known to add the "s" at the end, since I distinctly remember that it's also the name of the clique of popular girls from...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I made a couple of dumb mistakes yesterday. I considered Cornwallis but thought that the Battle of Yorktown took place farther north than Virginia, so I guessed John Rolfe, which was way off. I thought that the isoceles question was looking for a noun by itself. I vaguely remember hearing the term i...

Re: Besides Ken, Brad, and James, what other contestants could be considered GOAT?

The contestants from the 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019 ToCs never got to compete against Ken, Brad, or James in super tournaments where the play was all individual, so I do think that it's a little unfair for them not to be considered for a GOAT tournament. Alex Jacob, Arthur Chu, and maybe Ben Ingram ...
