Re: Friday, November 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Yeah, they should have just let the 3 contestants who finished with $0 do a tiebreaker clue. If there are situations where a quarterfinalist who finishes with $0 has to advance to the semifinals--like in the 2003 ToC--then I see no problem with breaking the $0 tie in the semifinals. TPTB could have ...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I got really lucky on yesterday's set with a 3(2)-2(2) win. Film is my second worst category but my opponent gave me a 0 for Halloween, and they missed it themselves! I actually did consider Halloween but thought that it came out in '77. The only two that I got were cosecant and Cyrus, which came fr...

Re: Friday, November 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I knew FJ, but only because I already knew the factoid about the honey badger having the general distinction of being the most fearless animal. I don't know what the hell the TOM was supposed to be, unless it had something to do with the videos that have already been referenced in this thread. But ...

Re: Friday, November 16, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I loved the Savannah DD. I still remember learning the acronym SALMA in my 8th grade Georgia history class to learn the 5 cities that have served as Georgia's capital. I knew FJ, but only because I already knew the factoid about the honey badger having the general distinction of being the most fearl...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I interpreted the Communist Manifesto question as asking for a 20th century work, which didn't seem to make sense given the wording of the clue. But I still didn't consider works from any other century, and it cost me a win. But at least getting credit for pear instead of bulb got me the tie!

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I opened the season with a 5(3)-3(2) win. I thought that St. Elmo seemed too obvious. I went with Christopher, gave my opponent a 3, and they got it. Thankfully it didn't cost me. I'm not a football fan, but I knew the Bills. I mixed up the order for iron and bronze. I had no idea on Dick Van Dyke. ...

Re: Should the Teen Tournament Winner Get a TOC Invite?

I should add that I do think that teen champions should be considered for super tournaments. They sometimes are, but none of the post-Chacko George Teen Tournament winners was considered for the BotD tournament. I can't imagine that any of them would have been picked, but they should have been able ...

Re: Wednesday, November 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Karl Marx was my first guess, going strictly from the first 5 words of the clue. I knew to make the switch, though I would have loved to have written Marx just for fun.

Re: Monday, November 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I made the lucky guess on FJ. I couldn't think of any big world event from 2014 that was tied to a certain country. So which country has caused controversy over the past few years? North Korea? Probably wouldn't be a part of a notable economic bloc. Russia? That seems a good a guess as anything. See...

Re: Should the Teen Tournament Winner Get a TOC Invite?

Sorry, but I have to vote no. In general the teen tournament winners just were not competitive enough to warrant invites to the ToC over a 3x or 4x winner from the regular episodes. Yes, there were some exceptions, like Eric Newhouse, Matt Zielenski, and Amanda Goad, but aside from maybe Newhouse ev...

Re: Friday, November 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't remember the exact wording of the clue, but could "aerospace engineer" have been acceptable for rocket scientist? I knew Urals, but I precalled the "Caucasus" neg. I distinctly remember one of my high school Spanish teachers telling us that Cinco de Mayo was more of a southwest U.S. than a S...

Re: Etiquette question

I think it's fine to resurrect the threads, as it isn't uncommon for that to happen to old game threads as it is. I feel like the Netflix thread should be more for general discussion about games appearing on Netflix or whatever other platform. And I also think that creating brand new threads for dis...

Lach trash on Ampere.

Not the FJ clue that I would want to see after I lost the lead on clue 60.

This might be FJ clue where my lacking knowledge of a subject, in this case The Bible, actually helped me. I thought that Moses seemed too obvious, but I had nobody else to guess.

Re: Friday, September 28, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't think that it was objectively a hard clue, but as someone who is not a movie buff I can't say for sure that I would have gotten FJ without Alex's impersonation. Of course, it may have also helped me that I seem to remember The Godfather coming up as a FJ clue not too long ago. The FJs for th...

Matt Bruce got as far as the green room, but knew Ken Jennings, who was still taping, and thus couldn't play, and then someone he knew started working on the show before he ever got his chance.

Condolences.
So then how were Scott Blish and Alex Jacob able to play each other!?

Colby's and Brad's teams look the strongest, but no result would surprise me with these teams.
