Re: LearnedLeague 99 (LL99) Thread

Anyone else think this season has been relatively easy so far? If the season were over, I'd have my highest percentage ever(though not necessarily to this point in a season). This season has felt harder than normal to me, though I am currently about .024 points better than my career batting average...

Re: LearnedLeague 98 (LL98) Thread

I was pretty lucky this season and finished 13th out of 36 in my rundle, so I will be staying in C. The questions played tough for me through the first 11 MDs, but I was lucky in terms of CAA and was never really in danger of relegation. But the last 14 MDs played easy by my standards, as I had at l...

Re: LearnedLeague 98 (LL98) Thread

Belated congratulations to those boardies who participated in this year's LLRC, which I at least found significantly more difficult than in years past. On the leaderboard, we have my OQL teammates teapot37 in 18th and BigDaddyMatty in 26th, Seaborgium in 73rd, jeff6286 in 209th, mahatma in 232nd, E...

Re: LearnedLeague 98 (LL98) Thread

I opened the season with a 4(3)-6(3) loss. Interestingly I got the three that my opponent missed (Karakoram, eggplant, Over There) and they got the three that I missed (barrel, Archimedes, gaffer). I guessed Bernoulli for Archimedes. It also doesn't feel great to miss "barrel" when that q...

I am not on Facebook anymore so I don't think that I can see all that you can see. But I think I have a better idea now.

Re: trivia Nationals 2023

I had no idea that Trivia Nationals will be coming back this year (I went in 2014 and 2015, when it was still known as TCONA). I saw the announcement for the Game Show Boot Camp on the LL website, but I guess that that's part of the larger event?

Re: LL Season 97

I was in first place in my rundle going into the last day, but when I saw yesterday's set of questions I thought that I was for sure going to lose. I had no idea on any of them at first glance. I did get Streisand on a lucky guess, but I lost out on two 50 50 guesses between golf vs. gymnastics and ...

Re: LL Season 97

I really had no idea on yesterday's Art question, but for some reason Washington D.C. was my first thought. But then I switched to Birmingham, and it was the difference between a win and a tie. Art has historically been one of my better categories, but I have now missed 10 consecutive Art questions ...

Re: LL Season 97

I drank my fifth career beer yesterday. I don't think that I ever watched an episode of The Muppet Show. But if I remember correctly there was something that I watched as a kid that came on right before its reruns aired, and I heard the theme song several times because of that. Nanjing was the only ...

Re: LL Season 97

My good luck continues, as I got a 5(3)-2(3) win yesterday and am now in first place in my rundle.

I still would have won, but I can thank Paucle for knowing "plow." I remember him making a joke (I think on the old Sony board) about how Ann Coulter's last name means "plow blade."

Re: LL Season 97

I think that I have been on the luckier side this season. In the past three days I have gone 5/18 on the questions but have a 2-1 record, which is lucky even for a D rundler. I am back in the promotion zone now, despite being in the middle of the pack in TCA in my rundle. Yesterday I lucked into a 2...

Re: LL Season 97

I had three 50 50 90 guesses yesterday: 107.9 vs. 109.9 I don't want to single out StevenH here but this is something I also was thinking reading over the LL Message Boards. Do people under a certain age have no idea of the FM radio in your car? I mean, I'm 48 and this was an absolute slam dunk for...

Re: Wednesday, June 7, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I loved the '90s kids category, but I can understand someone being frustrated by it. Super Mario 64 is one of my favorite video games of all time; it came out (along with the Nintendo 64) when I was in 5th grade, so I was in my video game playing prime. I can't say that I have ever heard the term &q...

Re: LL Season 97

I had three 50 50 90 guesses yesterday: 107.9 vs. 109.9, Diaz vs. Juarez, and pineapple upside down cake vs. strawberry shortcake. The only one I that I went the right way on was pineapple upside down cake. But I probably shouldn't have second guessed myself on that one, since I really only associat...

I only knew it because we learned about it an introductory level American history class that I took in college that covered the period before the 1700s.
