Re: Thursday, May 26, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

http://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7218/27277175955_cb5fa1f6ae.jpg I have GOT to stop deleting episodes from the DVR before all the credits stop rolling. On the station that broadcasts Jeopardy in our market, they often don't show all of the credits and cut in for a newsbreak before Prime Time programmin...

Instaget FJ for me, in part because my political science professor was one of the first African-American students to attend Central High School, so I thought of Little Rock immediately and connected to Clinton. http://www.chicagonow.com/sox-stuff/2015/02/this-blogger-life-the-impact-of-teachers-int...

Re: LL67 (For the LLamas Among Us)

I'm really bombing this season so far (with deepest apologies to my referrer), but at least I'm learning a lot.

Re: LL67 (For the LLamas Among Us)

My second season of LL and a first for me yesterday: a loss despite my 8(5). Ouch. Welcome to Rundle B.

Ironically, the day my three-day winnings total is passed is the day I taught Lord Byron--the FJ answer in my losing game, which I had hoped my opponents wouldn't get. Sigh.

Re: Monday, September 28, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

This game reminded me of my fourth and final game (air date June 15). Matt reminds me a lot of Brennan Bushee, who won that game and went on to win four more, and Vicki under other circumstances could have been a solid champ, just like Amy in the game we both lost to Brennan.

Re: LL66 (For the LLamas)

I won yesterday's match, but I could have increased my number of correct answers if I hadn't answered "Zambia," then changed it to "Tanzania." This was a kick-yourself moment for me because I have a student from Zambia this semester, my first from that country, and just last week I did a little read...

Good luck during the next few months. I hope you make it to the TOC.
Thanks much! Yeah, "nervous" pretty well nails it.

Updated Jeopardy! website

It looks like Jeopardy! has updated their website and included some new features--including a contestant tracker for the next TOC: https://www.jeopardy.com/tournaments/tournament-tracker I'm happy to be on it, of course, but sad I'm on the very edge of being kicked off.

Breaking Bad was a Sony production filmed, in part, at the same studio lot in Culver City where Jeopardy! tapes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Pict ... ios#Dramas When I was there in March, there was still a big banner for the show hanging from one of the buildings.

Re: Friday, July 24, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Scott seems to have annoyed the Facebook crowd. During my run, one of my students visited the FB page and found someone complaining it wasn't fair that I was so much smarter than my competition and that people like me shouldn't be allowed to play. As if! My fellow players were plenty smart, trust me.

Re: Tuesday, July 21, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I left after I lost because I was disappointed and wanted to process what I'd just gone through, but in hindsight I wish I'd stayed on. This, with one minor exception: I don't wish I'd stayed on because I did need that processing time, but I'd love to sit through another J! taping someday. Just not...

I left after I lost because I was disappointed and wanted to process what I'd just gone through, but in hindsight I wish I'd stayed on. After we watched Scott's second win last night, my wife asked if I won as much in any of my games, which I didn't. I enjoyed having a lock in the three games I won,...

I got FJ by relying on the words "American-born" as a TOM, signalling that the poet was an expat. Whitman, Longfellow, Dickinson, etc., would not be described as "American-born." I got FJ by reading The Waste Land multiple times--the advantages of being an English professor. Not that it helped me i...

Last clue in DJ! round BISHOP $2000: "Monologue" was given, would "soliloquy" work? I don't think so. "Dramatic Monologue" is a literary term; I've never heard "soliloquy" used in place of "monologue." "Soliloquy" is a term used in drama, whereas "dramatic monologue" is a term used only in poetry.

Maybe Rob juxtaposed this monster in his head: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/190/1173401934.jpg But then the correct response would be "who is Professor Weirdo?" And it doesn't fit the category.. Shelley quotes from Milton's Paradise Lost for the novel's epigraph, and in the novel F...

That reminds me, he mentioned that he went out and bought the cufflinks he showed in the interview segment after he won, wouldn't this have been taped not ten minutes after he won the day before? I know they have the "taped the same day as air" illusion, but then why doesn't he just say that he alr...
