Wow. The two Congos has one response between them. And I thought Eswatini would be an answer people would flock towards. Unused.

My son played baseball as a kid with a boy named Cain. Not sure why you would name your son after a person who murdered his brother.
Well, if he's an only child, no worries.
He's an only child, now.

Too soon?

Courtesy of Rex Kramer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVXiKgFZHYY&feature=youtu.be&t=54 Just out of curiosity, how did this show work? Were the contestants told a week or two before taping that they'd be impersonating Berry Gordy, so they could do research? Or were they only told on the day of th...

Re: Tuesday, September 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The official explanation's sidestepping the issue and ignoring the longstanding homophone rule makes me angry. If the old rule is gone, why can they not just tell us that? If they really don't believe that "Barry" and "Berry" are homophonous, why can't they just tell us that? I agree. Without conte...

easily find footage of Gordy saying his own name, but I leave that exercise to anyone else who would like to undertake it. Yeah, don't think I didn't try that. He was a first-person-pronoun user. No Bob Dole was Berry Gordy. (a) It's plausible that you might find him saying, "My name is Berry Gordy...

Brings to mind the time the show had a Rhyme Time clue that rhymed "Grant" with "aunt", but the contestant who responded pronounced them in a way that didn't rhyme.

Re: Tuesday, September 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

seriously asking since there seems to be an issue here: Isn't "Barry" pronounced different than "Berry", and therefore, in keeping with rules, since pronunciation changes with spelling, "Barry" is incorrect? Of course this could've been avoided if she just used the last name, and this is good reaso...

only 8 of the 9 quarterfinal matches in that tournament featured four players What makes you think that? http://www.j-archive.com/showseason.php?season=superjeopardy One of the players in quarterfinal 6 (game 7) was negative after Double Jeopardy, so there was a 3-player final. Re: Jeff Richmond player trivia

That's remarkable. Is Super Jeopardy the only time they've had 4-person finals? It looks like only 8 of the 9 quarterfinal matches in that tournament featured four players, which would mean 32 people have been in 4-person finals. I'm sure the number of individuals who have been in 1-person finals is...

Even the Indians had won in 2016, they still would've been an incorrect answer. They previously won the World Series in 1920 and 1948.

You'll probably want to edit the FJ category ("LITERATRUE").
Now I want that to be an actual category. Literatrue in the Jeopardy! round and Literafalse in the Double Jeopardy! round.

Four consecutive sheeps to start the contest has kind of doomed me. What did your face look like when you saw you were not alone on your "pri" word? My reaction would have been, "You gotta be [expletive] kidding me!" I had to use Google for both definition and pronunciation. Knowing I had no chance...

The person who ran the SHC decided to stop doing it due to the time it takes. A few people kept it going for a couple years but it fizzled out. It is a major time investment, much more so than a regular game. True. I think there's value in mentioning it, though. Frankly, my motivation was probably ...

Disappointed there's no Douglas Adams category.

Also, this is the second TD in a row not to explicitly ban outside research. Are we assuming we'll never another new player who doesn't know that rule?

Teaching the Sport was a quick 0/5 for me. Any reason I should know that pitch at $200 was a fastball? If I google "two seam", the next word that pops up in suggestions is "fastball", and I doubt that it's using my search history. Thus, "two-seam fastball" is an actual phrase - but I can see how yo...

Pluto. Pluto is the biggest planet. Commit it to memory.
And all this time I thought Pluto was Goofy's dog...
Pluto is a cartoon dog, Jupiter is the spring training home of the St. Louis Cardinals, and HD 100546 b is the biggest planet.

Re: 2020 Teachers Tournament Wild Card standings (Game 1 entered)

The 2003 ToC QF had exactly six $0 finishes, and two negatives. The two non-winners with positive scores went through, obviously, and the other wild cards had $9,000 and $7,600 before FJ. The ones who didn't make it through had dropped from $7,400, $6,400, $5,300, and $2,600. Edit: Because $0 was I...
