Re: Tuesday, December 29, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm glad they corrected their mistake. It's really frustrating when a question is clearly badly worded or written.

My FJ final question was also flawed. We brought it up a week after the taping and when the show aired, the question was edited to fit the correct response.

Re: The signaling device

I was 56 when I appeared. I generally have pretty good reflexes despite my age. I think age has less to to do with it than just general fast reflexes. But, I believe, there is so much more to it. With respect to practicing, I'm not sure that there's any real way to do it. So many factors affect actu...

No, I didn't catch the show because my head is still in the clouds! ;-)

Re: One year later

Perseverance pays. Sometimes it's the only thing we have. I say this because this week, after much effort and many trials, I finally earned my pilot's license. I went through several flight schools, two job losses and various other issues. It was very frustrating in the final stretch, I mostly did w...

Re: One year later

Hi Johnblue, Thanks! Hey were you at the audition in NYC in June of last year? There was a fellow who was an ATC who lived in Buffalo and commuted down to JFK (if I remember correctly). Might you be the same person? Holla, NYC June auditioners! I think I remember that story... either of you guys re...

Re: One year later

Again, look at the numbers. There are 2500-3000 people in the contestant pool and about 200 or so slots in a given season. Now, we know that it's not just about numbers, but those are pretty stiff odds. I'm just guessing here, but I'd bet that there's an interviewee scoring system and you really get...

Re: One year later

On a completely different note, another thing happened to me as a result of my appearance on the show. I decided that I had gotten a little too, shall we say, porky. So I decided to lose about 20-25 pounds which I've managed to keep off. All I have to do is play my episode again to restore my motiva...

Re: One year later

Joon, I felt that it was important to share my thoughts about the whole experience, both for my own reasons and to help everyone who aspires to be on the show. I'm exceptionally happy that so many folks have shared their thoughts and experiences. The thoughtful responses have certainly helped me a g...

Re: One year later

One of the things that I remember from my audition is that most of the other folks at the audition were young enough to be my children. One young guy was telling the story of his band which did covers of Talking Heads songs. Maggie asked if they did "Psycho Killer" and he said no. When I was being i...

Re: One year later

This year was my first audition, and I was in the last group of 3. Each time 3 new names got called, I felt my heart in my throat. I remember thinking, "Oh God, this is it!" It was... nervewracking to say the least I really do think the secret is to have a good time. My gut feeling is that people w...

Re: One year later

One more thing. I did the audition in my lucky seersucker suit (so named because it got me on the show). On the day of taping, I wore it as well. Unfortunately, it strobed terribly, so I was asked to change into my other suit. Hmmm...

Re: One year later

Regarding the "really smart people" question, I think *everyone* who takes the test a few times thinks that. I know I did. In fact it was my third online test that got me an audition and I *knew* that I had done much better on the first two tests. What that tells me is that there are other factors t...

Re: One year later

About a week after the taping, my wife and I were discussing cosmology (one of our favorite subjects) and she asked me if I thought a lot about the many worlds theory. "You mean like the alternate universe where the FJ answer came to me three seconds earlier and where I was a Jeopardy champion? That...

Re: One year later

Thanks so much for the nice responses. I've been thinking about this for quite some time and needed a way to express my thoughts. If the truth needs to be told, it is this: being a former contestant incurs a kind of loneliness. After all, only another contestant can know what you've gone through. It...

One year later

It's now been a little over a year since I was part of the first group taping for the 2012-2013 season. I've had some time to reflect on the whole experience and how it changed my outlook. Like most people who aspire to be a contestant, it's the fulfillment of a long-held dream. Mine goes back to th...

Re: Wednesday, September 26, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ah, Sherri, too bad. It was looking good there for you right up until the end. Nicely done! As for "being in the right generation", I'm old enough to remember the British marionette shows from ITV (Fireball XL-5, Supercar!, Captain Scarlet, etc.) shown in the US back in the early '60s and I knew it ...

Re: Boardies on the Show - Season 29

Hey fellow first-weekers, I got my "Alex 'n me" photo from Glenn a few minutes ago. Not bad at all! I'm almost as grey as Alex, obviously the most senior of the first-weekers. Just got mine too! I'm excited. Now, how to make this my avatar/picture thingy? Looks like they're featuring you too on thi...
