and the series was based on the book The Fifteenth Pelican by Tere Rios. I'm a little bothered that I have perfectly good brain cells being used to remember those facts. I feel your pain. I did get FJ!--I don''t recall ever reading any Joyce, but the name Stephen Dedalus stuck in my mind. I probabl...

Bonus question: Where in the United States did The Flying Nun take place?

I can only say that my interactions with her have always been positive. I can only hope that this is all a big misunderstanding and that she did not do this.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

That's right. My own surname has at least five variant spellings that I've come across. Sometimes you'll find names spelled two or three different ways in the same document. To track all of those down must have been a Dauntre , Dauntree , Dauntrees , Dauntrey , Dauntry , Daunting task. Yeah, and no...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Anne Bullen = Ann Boleyn = wife of Henry VIII (Granted, that got by me tonight, but I've been sick.) Because we all know how much I love "it sounds like a keyword, kinda sorta almost" as a TOM. One change of syllable stress is the only difference. Yep and Bullen was the original spelling. Boleyn wa...

Re: FJs for the 5/8/17 week

I was in Mendoza, Argentina and there were signs all over the place with arrows that said La Playa. Never did find the beach. No surprise since it's in the middle of the continent. Turns out that La Playa means parking lot. That's going to be the first chapter in my new book: Why I Don't Speak Spani...

Ipanema here, too. I've been to Brazil, but not to Rio.

Got Dos Equis with about enough time to write XX, but gave myself credit for that.

Re: Monday, March 6, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm too depressed over my upcoming 30th birthday on Friday. I'm stuck in a dead-end job in a remote nowhere town, never making anywhere close to enough money to get anywhere better, stuck in my mom's house because I can't build up to anything better. Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor...

1. Bunny hugs in my neck of the woods (east-central SK), but only girls called them that.
2. That origin for the term "hoser" is almost certainly spurious. The most likely origin is...but there are ladies present, so we will draw a veil over that...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Start reading a lot of cliffs notes. Or read USA Today. They have a lot of 200 word articles that skim the surface on the topic. Get the main idea, move on. Or...read a book? Looking for some way to know the answer is Lord of the Flies ? Read the book. Trying to figure out if it's Hemingway? Read H...
