Got SFR from the first part of the clue, without the Crusoe connection.

Cheese and geese do not rhyme. Finger and singer should rhyme, but singer is often pronounced in a way that they do not.

Re: Tuesday, May 19, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Alex said something to the effect that if you didn't come up with the 1719 novel first, you were going to struggle on FJ. However, I didn't read the 1719 portion of the clue until after I had gotten SFR based on the pastor, wife, and four sons. Me too, basically “name an adventure novel about a fam...

Re: Fun with Fox's "Mental Samurai"

The Grand Championship reaired on May 14. Still can't believe George Washington's facing on the quarter tripped up three contestants. Agree! I had not seen this last year. I was interested, given all the complaints about the time lost with the chair swinging around, that they would end up w...

Re: FJ! for the 5/4/20 week

Only watched Monday's show, although I did happen to see FJ on Wednesday.

Answered Florence Griffith Joyner to put something down, do not remember seeing the show the first time it aired.

I am aware of the upcoming new shows (from reading the board).

This was a nice blast from the past. My son, who watches with me most nights, commented that the pace seemed quicker than it is today. Any thoughts?
We thought so too. Alex in particular seemed to read the questions very rapidly.

Re: Monday, April 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The correct pronunciation of "Concord" (with a schwa in the second syllable) is a homophone for "conquered". Lauren's pronunciation is not, but the judges have accepted much more egregious things lately so I shrug my shoulders and move on with life. Not trying to devolve into one of those endless p...

I didn't spend the time cruising thru this entire thread to see if she'd been mentioned, but I nominate Brooke Burns from GSN. She's smart, experienced, deals with speedy question reading extremely well, doesn't seem uncomfortable with extremely brainy people at all, and speaks very clearly... And ...

I guess the key here was knowing that Prospero was a deposed Duke. That's a deep cut, congrats to anyone who pulls it.
Especially if you knew he was a deposed Duke of Milan. Still, the only straw to grasp onto here, if you knew it.

Chronology and geography would have helped retrospectively - The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms are in the 20s, while For Whom the Bell Tolls and A Farewell to Arms are both set in Spain.
