I was wondering if top of mind knowledge of Hoffa might be a generational and/or geographic thing. I noticed the 2 contestants who missed were from California. Conor, while young, is from NJ, where everyone knows Hoffa was buried in the end zone of Giants Stadium.

Re: Monday, March 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Looks like I'll be in the minority not checking the box for this FJ. I never got anywhere close. I associate "Ancient" too strongly with Greece and Rome. I wound up with The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, which I know wouldn't be it. I initially went to Greece/Rome, too, until taking a step back a...

Thrown off by the meaning of double-talk. Might have gotten this if I understood what they were going for.
Eisenhower an instaget, just had to confirm that 1952 was his first election year.

Re: Thursday, February 28, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Played this FJ off the clue of the day, and found “double-talk” maybe a little misleading, as I was led to think about nonsense words and phrases, which of course got me nowhere. Never would have thought they simply meant a word repeated twice.

Re: Tuesday, February 26, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Am I alone in finding the pace of the shows excruciatingly slow? What I would really like to see for a team game would be something like duplicate bridge - Let one player from each team play the whole game. The next game, let a different player from each team play exactly the same board. We would l...

Have heard of Goldman, but her name was buried too deep to pull it, went with Anthony.
Also went with Adonis for Endymion.

Can't say I recall ever hearing of Emma Goldman. Me either. I went with Anthony, though it really didn't make much sense but she was the only female activist of that era I could name. The FJ in this game http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=2234 got me thinking "anarchist" which led me to ...

I think “Beethoven’s Fifth” should have been negged or gotten a BMS. He did write 5 piano concertos after all, and the guy was playing the theme on a piano.

One of the few useful facts I picked up studying for J! was that the westernmost point in Africa was Cape Verde in Senegal. Paid off when they asked for the recently-independent nation off the westernmost point in Africa. So Senegal was easy, and figuring out Somalia on the Horn of Africa didn't ta...

I don't know how I'd categorize this one. There doesn't seem to be a TOM that I can see even now, so it comes down to "guess a Shakespeare comedy and hope for the best."
Which is how I ended up guessing A Midsummer Night’s Dream, my default J! answer for a Shakespeare comedy.

Never seen a complete episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Friday, got to rubber immediately, but spent the rest of the time debating between Goodyear, Goodrich and Firestone before settling on the right answer.

OK, I must have missed that discussion in lit class. How do those animal names lead to T.S. Eliot? I guessed Ogden Nash and never looked back. :?: Unless you are a real expert on Eliot, I think you have to guess those are cats names and know that Eliot’s poems were adapted into Cats the musical. I have never seen more than 5 minutes of Grey’s Anatomy and was not even sure it was still on the air, but ask me what recent ABC drama could have been on for 15 years and it would be the only one I could think of. Then Complications confirmed it.

I also got totally confused by the wording of the clue, thinking they were looking for movies limited to a set of nine different letters, but not a total of nine letters. In any case, I got JFK but wouldn’t have remembered W, I think.
