Re: Friday, October 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

1) It's Richard the Lionheart, Alex, not Lionhearted. 2) Sounded to me like Ryan said David Ben-Guron, not Ben-Gurion 3) Speaking of Ryan, I thought the rule was once Alex ruled you wrong, you couldn't change your response. Guess not. 4) Alex should have said, "You have 30 seconds, but you'll need ...

Re: Reretaken Down

You can keep your avatar for at least three more games this season.  Thanks (assuming no late inning shenanigans). My dream outcome is for them to crush the Sox, then a shot at revenge against the Astros in the LCS. The 2nd half of that is virtually guaranteed; the Indians aren't much of...

Re: Monday, October 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When Anna Karenina was the correct response to my FJ!, the category was Classic Novels and the clue was a bit easier. (If it had been a triple stumper then, I would have been a J! co-champion when ties were still allowed.) This time, it took about 15 seconds for it to occur to me as a pretty good gu...

:(     :( I wasn't thinking about the right things on Monday--even if I had been, I'm not sure I would have gotten the right response. Had to find an alternate means of watching J! on Thursday. I happened to be in a different room when Alex rea...

:( :( :( :( :( :( (would have gotten Volstead Act on a DD but clammed otherwise) Have not read or seen East of Eden. I think I ended up at Of Mice and Men but not happy about it. Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

I looked it up on bobbymgsk.wordpress.com (I wish there were more discussion of the other airings, as those are the ones I actually watch), and I have to ask: was his transcript of one of the choices as 1/7,876 a typo? I was doing the math, and I suspect I would have made a mistake had the number n...

Re: Friday, September 28, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was in a different room when the clue was read, so I suppose I should be pleased that I got FJ! from the words in the clue alone. I saw the movie once a few years ago. Nothing else really made sense.

Re: Thursday, September 27, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

In other news, 7/22 is not an approximation for pi--you have to use the day/month convention to get that to work. I think "22 July, or 22/7" would be acceptable if the writers have their hearts set on salvaging the clue.

Re: Wednesday, September 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ouch. Jordan. I was rooting for her to make a gutsy wager when it counted. That was a rough way to lose. Kyle more than met Jordan halfway by dropping $5000 between a missed DD and a missed $2k clue. Yet when Jordan uncovered the second DD, she chose to stay in second place. That left her $200 behi...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Medal ceremony

Congratulations to the ToC medalists and participants, and copious thanks to rjaguar3, Anachronism, and Blue Lion for running an enjoyable and high-quality SHC. If I'm not mistaken, not a single replacement question was used--quite a testament to the excellent writing and thorough editing.

Australia on Monday, Guillot  on Wednesday.

Did not know the proper word was restaurateur before Thursday.

I do not plan to watch the draft because I'm not on Facebook.

Re: Tuesday, September 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Thinking about it some more, perhaps an equivalent is "athalete", which I believe is generally accepted. The judges seem to be a bit more lenient when the extra syllable is a common mispronunciation and/or schwa-like. (Unlike "athalete", "Caruso" is a thing, which could make a difference.) When I wa...

Was I the only one who heard "Robinson Caruso"? I kept expecting a reversal on that.
That response was as primitive as can be.

Another "Australia" here. After about 20 seconds I started wondering about South America, but I don't think I would have made it as far north as Brazil in any case.

Somehow I picked up from a classical music album that Moldau = Smetana, and that's all I know about him. Thanks for the SHC. would have got it had they not used the german title for the piece and used vltava....i am more familiar with vyshehrad than that one..when i went to uni in prague i lived in...
