Re: Friday, January 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I can possibly answer one of the peripheral questions that came up! I was a Friday champion at the end of a taping week, and because of the Thanksgiving break, there was a longer layoff than normal between taping sessions. Sony paid my airfare to return for the next taping session. It would make sen...

Re: Friday, January 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I do love me a good WNBA reference, even if none of the contestants did, even when spotted the city. That being said, the Mercury isn't even the most apropos team for the category. Anyone want to take a shot at a) which team it is and b) writing a clue for that team?

Re: Friday, January 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I figured JFK was wrong not for any rational, logical reason, but because the factoid that his father was ambassador to the Court of St. James is lodged in my head, and I assumed that at some point she would have met the Ambassador's kids; what I wasn't sure about was whether the clue meant that she...

Re: TD 447 - Grab Bag (Final Standings)

That was extremely generous scoring on Q10, boss. I'll take it, but I'll also take a penalty on further review.

(I took the "Stupid Answers" part literally and said D was the capital of Djibouti.)

Re: On Both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune?

So based on the multiple counterexamples in this thread alone, can we assume that #50 on this Mashable article is hogwash? Also, #49 as written is hogwash as well even though those well versed in Jeopardy mechanics understand what they were attempting to say. #48 is also false, they really sputtere...

GDI I was going to go with Cabbage Patch Doll, but if there's a women's basketball answer I have to give it. Shoulda known someone known for topping a statistical chart would be high on a J! crew's list.

Re: Friday, May 1, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought FJ was *terribly* phrased, since so many countries contain "el" or "la" in their names. Would it have made more sense to phrase it as "On the English-language list of member states of un.org, it's the only nation that uses a Spanish-language article in its name"?

Re: Non-Jeopardy! related poll

I am aware of "think". I would never use it. Aw, come on. Why not? What would it take to get you to switch? Yeah, maybe econgator should give it another think. Or maybe we should just give him free reign on this one. I mean, for all intensive purposes "thing" is correct in that phrase these days. B...

"Remembrance of Things Past", my old enemy, how I loathe thee. I just watched this damn show 10 hrs ago and I already don't remember the author again. This one may be a lost cause enemy for me too. Read "How Proust Can Change Your Life" and maybe it will stick Proust did change my life. I now refle...

Re: Monday, April 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm going to say idiom is close, but no cigar. "This 5-letter word for a figure of speech is widely used to mean any familiar reference". Idiom definitely means "a figure of speech". But I don't think it's "widely used to mean any familiar reference". For example, I don't think we would generally r...

Re: Wednesday, April 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

People are piling on Xiaoke for Babe Ruth, and I'll admit that my husband and I pulled a gold medal performance in synchronized facepalming at that one, but I thought Nathaniel on the "Arizona Trail" was just as bad (we just didn't quite sync the facepalms there). Can we get "fir" as a wrong answer ...
