Re: Monday, June 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

NHO either of those mounts in $600, "ergonomic" recliner, or Aly Raisman. Also didn't recognize anything in the "Good" category. Not even the voice of Judy Hopps. Doesn't look like she's been in anything else particularly notable, either. I've never heard of those red-white-and-blue popsicles being...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Said Sydney for Melbourne- still don't get the name connection to William Lamb You didn't need to know Lamb to get this one; just the Port Phillip Bay connection, which appeared in the $2K Birthplaces clue on J! just last Tuesday. http://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6318&highlight=melbourne T...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Poll request for "George" magazine. Seems like a very obscure pick since it was only around for 6 years and I don't see any popcultural impact it could've made. Basically its pop culture impact is due to it being founded by JFK Jr. He was a pretty big deal in those days. I admit it seems a little o...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Ah, I remember that. I thought you were alluding to the movie. I guess the takeaway is that National Lampoon really likes jokes about killing dogs.

Re: Thursday, June 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I didn't think of FUBAR but did think of SNAFU, which I might have put down in desperation if I hadn't already thought of glitch. Both my wife and I had SNAFU. I put that down right away and tried to think of something better for the rest of the time, but "glitch" never came to me. I read "The Righ...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Of course I had seen Vacation, but when I think of John Hughes, I think of stuff like Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club. I had no clue he did Vacation. Dammit. I totally blew that one. My first thought was Rolling Stone, then changed it to Playboy. Didn't even think of National La...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

The Walter Reed question bit me defensively yesterday. My opponent was Canadian and I figured that would be something a Canadian would be unlikely to know. Unfortunately he did and got three point for it!

The 2015 Mattel VR product wasn't even close to being the "first virtual reality device,"
Who's saying it was? I think all the clue implied was that there was a VR product introduced in 2015 called "View-Master."

I agree that the clue should have used the word "brand" rather than "product."

Re: LL BWA Entries

The #1 game by global downloads in the iOS App Store and Google Play for 2018 is described by its maker, Voodoo Games, as an "exciting adventure of the bouncing ball through the...tower labyrinth". What is the name of that game?
Amaze Balls!

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

I play a lot of pinball to this day, so that one was easy for me. Unfortunately I gauged its difficulty poorly and assigned it zero and that cost me the match. The surprising one for me yesterday was Q1. I had Hamitic and was quite surprised that wasn't the MCWA given the clue that it was named for ...

I said John Wayne. Him playing a Russian seemed unlikely, but he was in a lot of movies.

Re: Friday, June 7, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was embarrassed to miss this FJ. I spent way too much time thinking "Victoria is in the clue so it can't be Victoria, can it?" Then went to Edmonton, but it didn't feel right. I never thought of Regina for some reason. I was definitely thinking too far west.

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So a pre-FJ instruction to be specific would tilt me mildly toward W. Guthrie if the clue seemed like a coin flip between him and P. Seeger. But I wouldn't go so far as to say, "Can't be Pete because otherwise they would NEVER have issued that instruction." I'm just not that confident. Yes, I think...

The only one I missed was the play and can't say I've ever heard of Marat/Sade.
Neither have the 11% who guessed Hitler ;)
Yeah, at least I picked a different equally wrong answer (I said Rosenkrantz).
