Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Congrats to jeff6286 on winning the Tolls 1DS! I coulda been a contender (top 15) had I not second guessed myself on Ft. Lee (that still looks NOTHING like the GW Bridge in my NSHO) and totally misjudged the difficulty of Q12. TBH, I'm still not sure how only 27% of the entrants could get the toll ...

Re: Friday, January 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I, on the other hand, missed the fact they were asking about two television shows. For some reason, I was thinking one was radio. So did I, until just reading your post! Weird. I also said Ryan Seacrest, but with more time to consider it he's clearly too late to be correct. Considering I was on WWT...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I hate to criticize too much, and I have enjoyed the Rock and Roll ML overall, but does it seem like it's been a little too metal focused to anyone else?

Mea culpa! I thought it was strange that no one had commented on this yet.

Re: Thursday, January 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did anyone else think it was strange that Caroline got credit for "Yalie" when the clue specifically asked for the Ivy League school? Maybe I missed something in the wording, but I was expecting a reversal before FJ.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Defense is always fun in mini leagues. Yesterday I assigned zero to the Ted Nugent question and my opponent assigned it three. Conversely, I assigned three to De Stijl and he assigned it zero. We both got De Stijl, but he missed Nugent.

Re: Tuesday, January 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

FJ was a WECIB. Did they really think that was a tough curveball? I can't believe a J! contestant would fall for the FDR 'trap' on this one. I guess it goes hand in hand with the all too common poor FJ wagering, which this game made a good case of. Right, because everyone is an expert on 20th centu...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

(That particular question was also an example, to me, of anti-TOM, where the only real pertinent part of the question was "Wisconsin", and all the stuff about Ireland led a lot of people away from the answer.) As explained in the recap thread, the author included the Irish radio station nugget beca...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Dang, that 1D maps played easier than I expected...only went 10/12 but i know an extra hour would've gotten me those remaining. Just wasn't in me at the time. (It's...been a long year...) It sure did. I got nine correct and only scored in the 44th percentile. I did biff one of my moneyed questions ...

Re: Tuesday, January 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When my wife and I were in Stockholm, we visited Skansen. Our first stop there--and I insisted on this--was the enclosure where the wolverine lived (hey, I'm from Michigan and went to U-M). I also remember stepping inside the Seglora Church and seeing a sod-roofed house. Also a glass-blowing exhibi...

Only two choices for Final, but when I saw "battles in their own communities," I thought of the communities derisively named after the correct response.
"Hoovervilles" is what my wife said tipped it for her, too.

Re: Thursday, January 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Can anybody explain why the incorrect response of "Bey-Z" has gone viral on Twitter? Between not listening to bad music and the multitude of cutesy celebrity couple portmanteaux, that was certainly my first instinct. I wouldn't have buzzed in, but still. Because people like to gloat when they know ...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

So, what did the Violent Femmes have to do with Ireland? I still can't figure it out. Nothing. Based on comments on the LL board the song was actually played in 2005 on that Irish station! The Femmes won some kind of listener poll or something like that. I got it right because I knew the Femmes deb...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I actually pulled a six-pack on match day 2. I've gotten 13 right in the first three days, so I don't think it's been overly difficult.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

[rant]OK, if you enter a rock and roll mini league you should know Alan Freed is the person credited with coming up with the term.[/rant]

I was just slightly surprised only 39% got that question right yesterday. Also it had the day's second highest defensive assignment with 1.8.

I was wondering if the 10 Lines About 5 Women category was inspired by 88 Lines About 44 Women.
Could be! I haven't thought about that song in a long time. A high school friend of mine played it a lot and I have to say I wasn't a fan.

Re: Thursday, January 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

No guess on FJ! Literally nothing seemed to fit. For me the immigrant hint connected it with Emma Lazarus' poem "The New Colossus" which is engraved on the base of the statue. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Se...

Re: Wednesday, January 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

All this composer talk reminds me of a M*A*S*H episode where Radar is taught to pronounce Bach as "Baaah". As edgy as it was, that is one sitcom that didn't age well. I don't know. Perhaps the problem is that those of us who have seen it have seen every single episode about five times. We'd need so...
