Re: Thursday, July 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It’s a good clue to solve on the early side with so much to write. Justin took a slight shortcut with the ordinal number while no one dared go with only Timid wagering definitely cost Justin the game. Can't say I have ever heard of the word "cager" used in relation to basketball. I'm guessing they ...

I've got to assume the monitor actually displayed the first word as "HIS" otherwise they'd never have invited him back. Misreading a clue certainly wouldn't be a good enough rationale for getting invited back.

Smithson seemed like a strange triple-stumper. Who else has an "Institution" named for them?

Re: Thursday, July 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Did some of you think Silent Spring was actually a novel or did you just fail to parse that bit of the clue? I'm just curious, because I'm guilty of botching plenty of FJs myself. For example last week I said Mary Shelley for a category that specified an American Author.

Re: Monday, July 9, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I would have thought a landscaper would know Briggs & Stratton. This is a great point! I get that everybody didn't have the rural/redneck/hillbilly experience so the TS didn't surprise me. You were spotted "brigs", and couldn't get this? For you urbanites, the B&S engine is the small gas engine tha...

Did anyone else notice everyone but Alex was pronouncing "mnemonic" sort of like "new-monic." Strange.

Guessed TR for FJ.

I'm feeling pretty good. Moved into first after yesterday and my final two opponents are currently ranked 24th and 25th in my rundle!

Someone from Muncie, Indiana should know how to pronounce Mackinac and I'm surprised Alex didn't correct him.

Re: Monday, June 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

In "po"pourri, I said "Maypo" for "a boiled breakfast cereal." I think they would have had to give it to me. Man, how old ARE you?! I'm sure I haven't thought of that old cereal in decades. Never tried it, but remember the commercials. Thanks for the flashback, and from this judge's chair you would...

Re: Monday, June 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

DD3: Are we playing J! or Scrabble? Did that clue about Mika’s dad really need to be one of the DDs? I was wondering if they would have taken just Brzezinski or if Zbigniew would also have be needed. I'm not sure I'd have been able to pull his first name in the required time. I thought more people ...

Instaget FJ because of "1958 suspense film"; if just given the term "vestibular rehabilitation", I wouldn't have linked it to vertigo.
Exact opposite for me. I think this one is going to poll quite high. The three of us watching at my house all got it instantly.

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

Hate to jinx myself but I've been on a nice streak and haven't lost since MD 8. After yesterday I'm sitting 6th in A Fjord with first only two points ahead of me. Pulled out a 7(5)-4(4) victory yesterday. I missed Welsh Rarebit my opponent missed Gonzo and semiconductor.

Best I could come up with was the Jupiter Symphony. Not exactly sure how that could be a symphonic "feature" but it least I was in the right area time-wise.

Re: Monday, June 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

My first impulse was Etch-a-Sketch due to mis-comprehension of the clue. I was looking for something Dyed but neither the liquid or the Dye worked. Then realizing it was "die", not "dye" Same here, but I never realized my mistake. Etch-A-Sketch seemed wrong, but I had nothing else. My FJ performanc...

If everyone knew that there was a college-wide password reset, very likely dozens (if not hundreds) of people took advantage of it to get into other people's accounts.
Really? I guess I'd like to think people are more honest than that as a rule, but perhaps I'm wrong.

I'm curious why you are so adamant in your defense of Stephanie, Quantum. To me it's clear what she did was wrong and illegal and she must suffer the consequences. She was a great player and she's an entertaining individual, but that doesn't make her above the law. What Adrian College did is the se...

"Thug" was easier if you remember Temple of Doom - the Thuggee cult and their worship of Kali was prominent in that film.
There's a poll on the LL forum asking how everyone got this one. It was all Tupac's "Thug Life" for me.

Re: Thursday, June 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

At least you all guessed a Zodiac constellation. I skipped right over that, figured a good place to find a knot was on a belt, so I guessed Orion. :( Same here. I saw knot and immediately thought of The Gordian Knot. I spent the rest of the time trying to figure out what constellation had something...
