Yay, I finally won yesterday! Only my third non-forfeit win of the season. I've also now gotten five correct on six consecutive match days.
Don't forget the midseason classic this weekend, everyone!

Re: Friday, December 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Despite the word "history" in the FJ clue I was think the inference was that the country is associated with a current movie star, so I went with Arnold thinking that was the barbarian tie-in.

Re: Thursday, December 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Why is it that celebrity read clues need to have like twice the words of normal clues? I guess when they get someone like Jeff Goldblum they feel like they need to get their money's worth or something. The strangest thing about Goldblum wasn't that he read the clues slowly, but just the odd cadence ...

Not in love with this pure trivia, no-TOM Final. It's basically "pick a non-traditional Christmas song". Not sure what prevents it from being "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" or "Silver Bells" or "Frosty The Snowman" or "Holly Jolly Christmas" or a variety of others. A first edition reading shows th...

Re: LL83: Learned League
Wahaddi just wasn't close enough. Nor was dropout. I was surprised at the 40% get rate on Wahhabi. That's something that doesn't sound at all familiar to me. Cost me a tight one yesterday, losing 7(5)-6(5). My opponent missed "The College Dropout." I've always thought my defense was pretty good, bu...

by This Is Kirk! » Wed Dec 04, 2019 12:46 am Well for some oddball reason I put down "Iroquois Round Table" for FJ. I have no idea how my brain came up with that instead of Algonquin... You were actually only about a half of a block off! The Iroquois Round Table members must have been the B-listers...

Age was probably as important to whether you knew "Soul Train" as much as TV knowledge. It's hard for me to imagine anyone close to my age (49) not remembering it.

Re: LL83: Learned League
Surprised to see turbinado play so difficult. Both my opponent and I assigned that one zero and we both got it. Interestingly it was tied for the lowest defense of the day, but it was the second most difficult.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)
You're pretty wrong about this. Did/do you feel the same way about Malala Yousafzai? Had to look her up. I still think they wouldn't even have given her the time of day if she weren't a kid. That's the impression I get literally every single time a kid does something noteworthy. They just get 15 mi...

Re: LL83: Learned League
For the music question, I got as far as Brian Eno and "Tal"king Heads. Talking Heads were a four piece (edit: sorry, you were prolly thinking Talking Heads for the first band, the "art-rock" one) I got that one despite totally misinterpreting the question. For some reason I thought the Bryan/Brian ...

Oh you -really- haven't paid attention to the climate fight then. The reason a kid is famous is because the adults haven't done anything in the first place . NHO Greta Thunberg, nor do I see why I should. That seemed horribly out of place in the top box. There's really no reason to take this tone. Greta Thunberg attracted international attention this past summer for her climate change protests. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and addressed t...

I know it's a stretch, but, thoughts on "pommel" for "An 8-letter Olympic game of horse"? Um, "pommel" is six letters... Wow, good point! I was so focused on the double letters in the middle that I glossed right over that. "Ppommell," on the other hand..... Ah, yes, the Welsh spelling.
