Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was surprised Kevin received credit for his response on DJ29 SWEDEN LOWS--& HIGHS for $1600: Low: in a twist like one out of his "Millennium" mysteries, some fans think this author was murdered in 2004 https://youtu.be/LUI3CY8SZvM What do you hear him say? Mrs Penguin and I very clearly hear him ...

Kevin negative on last clue. Scores: Garrett 7000 Kevin 15600 Amy 8400 Yes, this is tragic for Amy because she would have won the game if she had just put her buzzer down after Kevin rang in. There was no advantage whatsoever in attempting the rebound. That's easy for us to note at home when we can...

And the OED just got around to putting the wine-based definition of Cab in their dictionary??? I've heard and used that term for several decades. The earliest citation the OED editors could find was a 1974 advert in the Canberra Times. Four of the words in this category come from the OED's January ...

In explaining her answer, Reshima said "I started to write Thailand" which could be why the judges ruled her wrong. If instead she had stated "It's the abbreviation for Thailand", the ruling might have gone in her favour. I'm imagining a scenario in which Reshima enters FJ in second place, starts t...

Re: Tuesday, September 22, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

That is a good question. What history has "th" for "Thailand" have, pre- internet codes? I think internet codes deserve as much respect as state postal codes, but has the show given it in the past? The internet code for Thailand is .th, so even if she did mean the internet code, she forgot the dot....

Courtesy of Rex Kramer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVXiKgFZHYY&feature=youtu.be&t=54 Just out of curiosity, how did this show work? Were the contestants told a week or two before taping that they'd be impersonating Berry Gordy, so they could do research? Or were they only told on the day of th...

The Barry/Berry ruling reminds me of this ruling on Password Plus back in the 80s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8Rlrx-AQbQ This is terrific, thanks for posting. It might as well have been Marcia Wallace's audition for Edna Krabappel. (Also she argued her point pretty well.) Funny how the first ...

The wide shot of the three contestants looks terrible. I hope they put the podiums back together when the protocols are lifted. I can't read all the scores without twisting my neck during the wide shot.
You're sitting too close to the TV.

Nice story about Ms. Ng: Watching 'Jeopardy!' helped this woman learn English — and now she's a contestant She had a fair bit of national and local media coverage in Canada about her Jeopardy appearance. Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Pacific), January 30, 2020

I'd never seen this before, so I thought I'd put this out there: the source of the old "35 is the cutoff" rumor is apparently a press kit put out by Jeopardy in the 80s Just for the record, the link to that 1989 LA Times article, which Claire McNear posted on Twitter last week, had already been pos...

Another game in which the Jeopardy round ended in a tie for last place was Show #7419 - Thursday, December 8, 2016 . One of the tied contestants, Anton Deljaj, posted on Reddit that the tiebreaking rule is not "leftmost tied player calls the first clue" as stated above, but "Since I had answered th...

But in a more ominous note, why did Alex seem so certain that the three of them would never play again? Alex said, "I don't mean to be negative, but this is probably the last time we will see the three of you competing as contestants on this program." I took him to mean, 'probably the last time all...

"21st century" being part of the clue was neither helpful nor unhelpful to me since I knew it anyways, but a rather interesting fact is that over half of the Best Director Oscars this century went to foreign born people. It's actually two-thirds, right? Of the Best Director awards for 2001 to 2018 ...

Why does Ken say that playing an hour of Jeopardy back-to-back is "something none of us have ever done"? Or was he actually saying it "isn't something none of us have ever done"?

There were three of the four that surprised me as being considered "new to the OED". It seems that the OED, the world's most permissive dictionary, enters a word as soon as it's been used by.... um, maybe five people. I guess not in these cases... I've known the word "rooked" and that usage for 50-...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

I have to wonder what the level of difficulty of the answer/questions will be. If they set it at the highest level, the expanded prime time audience may only be able to appreciate the drama of the competition, and go numb if they try to play along. I'll enjoy it for the drama of the competition and...
